Cosmography of Laniakea

Updated: 10 months ago
Deadline: 30 Jul 2023

The Aarhus supernova group is seeking an individual to join the Aarhus-Barcelona cosmic FLOWS project. FLOWS is using an assortment of facilities to obtain near-infrared observations of nearby type Ia supernovae with the aim to map the peculiar velocity field of the local Universe. Ultimately, FLOWS aims to perform cosmography of our home supercluster's dark matter distribution, constrain the growth-rate of structure, and provide a testbed on intermediate scales for gravity and modern cosmological models. FLOWS seeks a postdoc to contribute to the observational efforts, manage the FLOWS photometry pipeline, improve the photometric calibration, and construct precise Hubble diagrams. In addition to collaboration with a local PhD student, the postdoc will work with project members in Barcelona, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with the NUTS and POISE collaborations.

Applicants must hold a PhD degree in physics or astronomy, or equivalent, and have demonstrated abilities with python software development. Previous experience with observing, near-IR image processing, and photometric calibration is ideal.

Starting date from Autumn 2023, or upon mutual agreement. Minimum duration of the employment is two years. The application must be submitted via Aarhus University’s recruitment system. Applications must be received by July 30, 2023, and a minimum of two letters of reference are requested. Please provide names of references in application cover letter, as well as their contact information.

Complete details of the position can be found here: Cosmography of Laniakea - Ledig stilling på Aarhus Universitet (au.dk)
