The Department of Clinical Medicine at Faculty of Health at Aarhus University invites applications for a position as Clinical Chair Professor and Consultant in Dermato-venereology as per June 1, 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position is a combined position at Aarhus University and Aarhus University Hospital and is a permanent full-time position.


About the Department of Clinical Medicine

As a Clinical Chair Professor at the  Department of Clinical Medicine, you will be part of  one of the largest health science research departments in Denmark. Our clinical research covers all the medical specialties and takes place in close collaboration with Aarhus university hospital and the regional hospitals in the Central Denmark Region. We have approx. 30,000 square meters of modern research facilities for experimental surgery and medicine, animal facilities, and also advanced scanners at our disposal. The department has overall responsibility for the Master's degree programs in medicine and in molecular medicine. At the department we are approx. 425 academic employees and the same number of PhD students cooperating across disciplines. About the Department of Dermato-venereology

The Department of Dermato-venereology employs 29 medical doctors of which 15 are specialists in Dermato-venereology and cover all significant subspecialties. The staff includes 1 Professor in basic science, and 11 Associate Professors. The department educates a steady number of Ph.D.-students and research year students. We publish approximately 50 scientific papers in leading international medical and specialized dermatological journals each year. The research activity covers mainly research within inflammatory skin diseases, cutaneous T-cell lymphoma, and genodermatoses.

We engage in clinical as well as para-clinical collaborations and cover detailed basic research methodologies, model-animal projects, and health service and organizational research contributions. The Chair Professor will be instrumental for the further success of research activities at the department.

Research is considered to be a core element in maintenance and development of the departments clinical functions.


Your job responsibilities

As Clinical Chair Professor you will have responsibility for the maintenance and development of the department's research and teaching environment, and you will contribute to the implementation of the faculty's overall research strategy. You are expected to contribute – both independently and in collaboration with others – to the development of the department by leading research of high international quality and contributing to ensuring a high academic and didactic standard in the teaching. Qua your excellent collaborative skills and a broad academic network, you contribute to the academic development at Aarhus University and to the university’s profile both nationally and internationally.

As Clinical Chair Professor in Dermato-venereology, you have the overall responsibility for the theoretical and practical education in the field, in the whole of Central Denmark Region. It will be expected that you participate and lead all aspects of providing a state-of-the-art pre-graduate education such as lectures, developing learning goals, organise examination and clinical training. You will together with the Chair Physician and the Head Nurse constitute the department leadership. The team members have equal and shared responsibilities and decision influence for all aspects of leading the department, each making use of their different professional competences.

Your main tasks will consist of:

  • Research of high international quality, including publication in top international journals, and communication your research in national and international academic networks.
  • To contribute to the external research funding.
  • Assessment and committee work at Aarhus University.
  • Research-based collaboration with private and public-sector stakeholders as well as research-based consultancy.
  • Dissemination of your own and the departments research to the outside world.
  • Ability to influence regional and governmental regulatory authorities.
  • Technique-, Technology- and infrastructure development in the field of Dermato-venereology with a rapidly increasing caseload.
  • Further development of the diverse research activities at the department. The success of the department should be the driving force rather than the success of individuals.
  • Leadership for teaching of medical students.
  • Driving force of the development of Dermato-venereology in The Central Denmark Region.
  • Participation in and equal contribution to the department leader team.
  • Secure development of the speciality through recruitment and talent management.

Your competences

You have established yourself as a prominent clinical researcher within dermatology and venereology, and you possess solid research and teaching qualifications at a high international level. You have shown the ability to initiate and develop ways of improving and expanding the research within the speciality. You have solid experience as main PhD-student supervisor and has shown strong abilities towards career development for colleagues on all academic levels from junior- to senior-level. You have broad regional, national and international cooperative partnerships and great experience of research partnerships with private and public-sector stakeholders. You have also documented ability to attract external funding.

You are ready to take co-responsibility for the development of the department's research and education at the highest international level and for ensuring that we maintain a good work environment. You will naturally involve yourself in interdisciplinary collaboration at departmental, faculty and university level as well as nationally and internationally.

We expect you to be fluent in oral and written English. International applicants are expected to learn Danish, and Aarhus University arranges Danish teaching. Spoken language in the department and at the hospital is Danish.

Terms of employment

  • In making the appointment, emphasis will be placed on a high degree of original production at an internal level and experience from teaching at different levels as well as contributions to the development of teaching activities and teaching material, hereby documenting that the applicant has developed the academic discipline from a research and teaching perspective.
  • Moreover, there will be an assessment of the applicant’s ability to perform research and teaching management tasks.

  • The appointment is in accordance with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (Akademikerne).
  • Remuneration is in accordance with the above, and the Salary agreement catalogue for staff at Health .
  • The yearly base salary for a fulltime professor is DKK 782.488,07 (including a position related supplement, a pre-agreed professor supplement and pension (17.1%)). Additional supplement(s) can be negotiated dependent on experience, special qualifications and performance of special functions. Professors have the authority to negotiate pay on their own behalf.
  • Researchers recruited from abroad are offered a special researcher tax scheme with a lower tax rate.
  • Travel and moving expenses may be covered according to the employee in question and, to a limited extent, the accompanying family.
