Job Description

The Research Group for Global Capacity Building (GloCaB) is looking for a part time employee (e.g. a student) with an interest in bioinformatics and genomic analysis, who can assist in data handling of sequencing data. The employee will work with whole genome sequencing bioinformatics, such as maintaining and constructing pipelines, and genomic analysis focusing on antimicrobial resistance genes and mutations. 

The GloCaB group function as the European Union reference laboratory for antimicrobial resistance, conducting ring trails and proficiency tests in whole genome sequencing and detection of antimicrobial determinants in foodborne bacterial pathogens. Furthermore, GloCaB builds capacity in multiple low- and middle-income countries for antimicrobial surveillance. In this capacity, we also collaborate with researchers, clinicians, veterinarians and food laboratories, offering whole genome sequencing, genomic analysis and expertise in antimicrobial resistance. Your role will be to support existing and ad-hoc projects. 

The job
Do you have experience working command line or with high performance computing (HPC) clusters like Computerome? Are you interested in working with one of the biggest threats to public health and play a role in the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance? Then this position offers a chance to work with experts in the field of antimicrobial resistance and hands on experience with whole genome sequencing data processing. 

You will work with:

  • Constructing, maintaining and optimizing pipelines for whole genome sequencing data processing (in Linux environments).
  • Genomic analysis of bacterial pathogens.
  • Ad-hoc tasks

Our expectations of you
We are looking for candidates with knowledge of bioinformatics/computer science, preferably, which have finished their bachelor’s degree.

Requirements:

  • Python programming language.
  • Navigating command line in Linux/Unix environments.
  • Submitting to a queuing systems on a HPC cluster 
  • Knowledge of sequencing workflows
  • Working systematically and clearly annotate code
  • Documenting your work.
  • Work independently.

Preferred:

  • Basic genomic analysis (use command line tools to search for genes)
  • Phylogenetic analysis.
  • Communicate complex topic clearly.

Salary and appointment terms
Salary and appointment terms in accordance with OAO-S Joint Agreement and the organization agreement for IT employees (Prosa) in the service of the state or other relevant agreement.

Working hours are on average 10 hours per week and can be arranged flexibly in relation to holidays, etc. We expect you to be flexible and it is an advantage if you can be available during the summer months of June and August.

The post is to be filled as soon as possible. Employment runs until 31.12.2025.
The workplace is DTU Lyngby Campus, Building 204, Henrik Dams Alle, 2800 Kgs. Lyngby.
