Job Description

Are you eager to pioneer automation solutions that will revolutionize our approach to bioengineering, enabling groundbreaking advancements in antibiotics, plastic-degrading enzymes, and microbiome engineering? As an Automation Specialist, you will become a central figure in the Data Science Hub at DTU Bioengineering. Your role will bridge the gap between high-level data management strategy and hands-on innovation in the fast-evolving field of life sciences automation.

The job
DTU Bioengineering is seeking a highly skilled and innovative Automation Specialist, for a two-year position, to meet the growing demands for advanced data handling and process automation, essential for data-driven discoveries and adherence to stringent research integrity standards. In response to these needs, we are expanding our team to include an expert who will drive the automation processes that underpin our research.

Your primary responsibility will be to spearhead the automation efforts within the DTU Bioengineering, with a focus on integrating and enhancing data workflows for DALSA (DTU Arena for Life Science Automation). This involves not just the development and implementation of automated workflows and protocols, but also strategic thinking around how to run and finance such a center in an open access setting. It will be key to craft a cohesive strategy for the deployment of automation technologies across the department's research activities. As the Automation Specialist, you will work in concert with employees and students from many DTU departments, all involved in this interdisciplinary initiative.

Our expectations of you

  • A PhD in a field relevant to automation in the life sciences, such as bioengineering, systems biology, or computational biology.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing automation solutions within a research context.
  • Proficiency in managing and analyzing large, heterogeneous datasets, ideally with exposure to high-throughput experimental data.
  • Familiarity with the challenges of handling sensitive data, including clinical datasets, and an understanding of related regulatory requirements.
  • Exceptional communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with data owners, stakeholders, and a multidisciplinary team.
  • Previous experience in an interdisciplinary environment, working at the intersection of data science and automation, is highly desirable.

As the linchpin of our data science and automation initiatives, you will play a critical role in propelling DTU Bioengineering into a new era of data-driven bioengineering research. Join us in our mission to craft the tools and technologies that will shape the future of sustainable life science solutions.
