The cross-border region Denmark-Germany is turning into a powerhouse in industrial electronics. The Centre for Industrial Electronics (CIE ) at the University of Southern Denmark (SDU) was established by a strong partnership between industry, academia, and regional authorities. CIE is located at the campus of SDU Sønderborg and is surrounded by a vibrant industrial environment. CIE is part of the Institute of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering.

Job description
We are seeking an innovative and visionary Associate Professor in the field of Advanced Electronic Materials and Devices (AEMD), whose group focuses on the technical aspects of novel electronic materials and devices for high power and high-frequency applications, with a strong emphasis on wide bandgap devices (GaN, SiC). The candidate will be working on a very multidisciplinary project that covers topics such as semiconductor technologies for industrial applications.

The Centre has currently more than 30 faculty members including senior (full and associate professors), junior (assistant professors and Post Docs), PhDs, and support staff. On this basis, we strive for unique and excellent value in research, innovation, and education.

It is our vision the Centre for Industrial Electronics at SDU will excel in areas of key relevance for companies in the region of Southern Denmark and beyond, including but not limited to

  • Electromagnetic compatibility and immunity
  • Power electronic components and systems
  • Wide band-gap devices
  • Failure and reliability analysis
  • Packaging and thermal management

The position will be at the rank of Associate Professor preferably having a starting date of 1.6.2023. The appointments are permanent.

The candidates must have:

  • Excellent track record in research of Power semiconductor devices
  • Significant successes in attracting research funding
  • Demonstrated track record as a self-motived, independent, high-performance team member.
  • Experience organizing and leading teams
  • Extensive experience with industrial collaboration
  • Relevant teaching experience

Qualifications

  • The successful candidate holds a Ph.D. with an extensive background in engineering or physics, and materials science.
  • Able to generate innovative ideas in semiconductor technologies, applicable to the industry.
  • Strong background in compound semiconductor devices and materials with emphasis on wide bandgap semiconductors (GaN or SiC).
  • Experience in the development and calibration of active component models using industry-standard formats.
  • Experience with Technology computer-aided design (TCAD) tools.
  • Good knowledge of advanced commercial semiconductor fabrication process technologies.

A panel will assess the qualification of the candidate for the described post based on the submitted material, which should include

  • an overall vision for research and development activities
  • a Curriculum Vitae and statement of motivation
  • an account of significant contributions to the development of Electrical Engineering
  • an account of significant contributions to innovation in Industrial Electronics
  • an account of experience in leading and developing R&D teams
  • an account of experience in education and outreach
  • an account of collaborations with leading actors in the field
  • relevant diploma
  • a list of publications, top ten marked.

Conditions of employment
Employment as an associate professor requires scientific qualifications at PhD level.
