Associate Professor in Biorefining and processing of animal feedstuffs

The Department of Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Aarhus University, invites highly qualified applicants for a position as associate professor in biorefining and processing of animal feedstuffs from 1 August 2023 or soon thereafter.

The position

We seek a candidate who has an analytical background combined with nutritional, feedstuff processing and assessment experience.

The preferred candidate will possess experience in protein chemistry, amino acids, anti-nutritional compounds and analytical methodologies, along with methodologies for biological evaluation of nutritional value of proteins.

The main focus will be on understanding of feedstuff processing in general and specifically on the protein fraction from green biomasses, chemical and nutritional evaluation of the obtained fractions and support in the optimization of processes for obtaining high quality protein for feed and food from green biomasses.

You are expected to take initiatives in interdisciplinary research with national and international research and industry partners, and to ensure external funding to establish a successful research program and your own research team.

Your profile

Qualifications for the associate professor level at Aarhus University must include postdoctoral training or employment as a researcher or similar with a relevant research profile and a strong scientific publication record in one or several of the areas of the position as described above. This includes that you:

• Have a MSc and PhD in animal science, molecular biology, chemistry, or equivalent biological training.
• Have experience in feedstuff processing and fractionation of biomasses
• Have experience in chemical and nutritional evaluation of feedstuffs
• Have experience in attracting funding and industrial collaboration
• The following will also be considered assets: demonstrated ability to produce publications and conduct independent research; ability to take on a leadership role within a small research team; student mentorship experience; strong interpersonal and communication skills.

The mission of ANIVET is to perform basic, strategic and applied research and innovation within the department’s core activities: nutrition, health and welfare. The activities make up the science-based foundation of ANIVET’S’ teaching, public sector consultancy and collaboration with business and industry. The successful applicant will be placed in the research unit Monogastric Nutrition.

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications – and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the assessment committee if necessary, – the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. The selection is made on the basis of an assessment of who of the candidates are most relevant considering the requirements of the advertisement. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee and will receive his/her assessment. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants.

Formalities and salary range

Technical Sciences refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation .

Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Taxation and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
