Associate Professor in Applied Economics

DTU Management, department of Technology, Management and Economics at Technical University of Denmark (DTU) has 2-3 vacancies at the level of Associate Professor in Applied Economics. The expected start date is mid-2023, but we are flexible on this.

The appointment’s aim is to strengthen the research in economics within the department. The candidates will become part of a strong team with international leading economists within a multi-disciplinary department. At the department, we have a number of internationally leading experts and 8 full professors within environmental, energy and climate economics.We have recently invested in behavioural and experimental economics and have attracted leading scholars in this field.   

We are seeking candidates with experiences in one or more of the following economic methods:

  • Developing and applying behavioural economic models
  • Applied micro-economic theory and quantitative modelling
  • Conducting and analysing lab or field experiments or analysing natural experiments
  • Applying advanced econometric tools
  • Performing econometric analyses of large-scale datasets such as register data
  • Conducting policy relevant research based on active stakeholder engagements

The positions are open to different application fields within economics including, but not limited to, environmental, transport, ecological, energy, climate, urban, and public economics, and sustainable finance. The appointments come with a heavy focus on research supplemented by selected attractive tasks such as teaching and scientific advice to authorities and/or the industry.

We seek candidates with a high potential for creative and independent research, willingness to collaborate and interact with other researchers, the ability to teach microeconomics related courses and to disseminate research in seminars, conferences and in the classroom.

The positions are full-time and based at DTU Lyngby Campus just north of Copenhagen. Copenhagen is renowned around the world for its relaxed atmosphere, fantastic restaurants, festivities and high quality of life.

Responsibilities and qualifications
The key responsibilities of the positions are:

  • Conducting excellent research in one or more of the above-mentioned research areas and publication of articles in international high-ranked journals
  • Collaboration externally with international academia, internally within the university as a whole and public authorities
  • Attracting external funding to the field of research
  • Providing scientific advice to authorities and the industry.
  • Teaching and supervising

The successful candidate is expected to contribute in developing academic visibility and eventual research leadership within an international community of colleagues.

Applicants are expected to be successful assistant professors with convincing experience in research, publications and dissemination, teaching experience and teaching education (e.g. similar to the University Teacher Training Programme at DTU), contributions to externally funded projects and possible external grants, impact of the research towards policy, public sector or industry.    

As an associate professor at DTU, you are expected to teach bachelor and master level courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. Applicants are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages and in time are expected to master both. As a formal qualification you must hold a PhD degree in economics at the time of starting date.

Salary and terms of employment
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union. We offer possibilities to favourable taxation for non-Danish residence (see Danish Tax Authority ), and a competitive salary.
