Assistant Professorships in culture, communication and/or media studies with an interdisciplinary profile
The Department of Communication and Arts (DCA), Roskilde University, invites applications for a number of assistant professorships in culture, communication and/or media research to be filled from 15 August 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter.
We are looking for candidates with a strong research profile and an ambitious research plan who – together with colleagues – want to contribute to Roskilde University’s strategy and to the further development of the department’s excellent, impactful research at the intersection of culture, communication and media.
Your research should be grounded in a relevant research field such as communication studies,culture studies, history, journalism studies, media studies or another discipline/field relevant to the department. The ideal candidate wants to enhance their already interdisciplinary research profile, or develop their current research profile in a interdisciplinary direction, in alignment with Roskilde University's 2030 'Interconnected' research strategy and the department's research profile'

DCA is an innovative and interdisciplinary university environment. Our research and teaching are characterized by diversity with respect to theories, methods and areas of study. The department produces knowledge that contributes to critical research and reflexive practice in relation to development and change in society, including public institutions, private organizations, NGOs, and cultural and media institutions. The department hosts a number of large-scale research projects, contributing to a dynamic, international research environment alongside research groups and centres. Responsibilities and tasks
The position will primarily include research, including publication/academic dissemination, and research-based teaching, including examination, course coordination and supervision of student projects. The position also entails public dissemination of knowledge, including participation in public debate.
Candidates are expected to teach at both MA and BA levels across programs and to complete the educational training programme for assistant professors at Roskilde University. Teaching at Roskilde University requires an interdisciplinary approach and involves supervising problem-oriented project work (PPL – read more here ). Candidates are expected to undertake teaching assignments in two or more of the programs offered by the department and are asked to motivate and specify their teaching competenciesin their application.
Qualifications
Applicants must hold a relevant PhD degree The ideal candidate is expected to
- Undertake research in culture, communication and/or media research with an interdispiplinary approach
- Have a profile relevant for teaching at two or more programmes, offered by the department
- Contribute actively to the strategy of the university and the department
Moreover, the following qualifications are required
- Documented international publication record with relevance for the position
- Documented research profile relevant for the department
- Preferably, the applicant has documented experience with public dissemination of research
Assessment
In the assessment of candidates for a position as assistant professor consideration will be given to;
- Research topic
- Scientific production
- Research plan
- The ability to promote and utilize research results
- Experience in teaching and education
- Other academic experience e.g. from organizing research conferences or seminars
- Ability to contribute to development of the department’s internal and external cooperation
- Experience with cross-disciplinary collaboration in research and/or teaching
- The teaching needs of the department
The candidate should be enterprising, possess good communication skills and be motivated to take part in the department's daily activities and collboration with colleagues

Terms of employment
The employment is full time and you will refer to the Dean.
Within a reasonable period of time (max. 2 years), non-Danish-speaking appointees are expected to acquire proficiency in Danish sufficient to be able to interact with colleagues and teach and supervise students.
The position will be filled according to the Agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations (AC) and Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities.

After the deadline for applications the Dean will shortlist applicants for assessment with assistance from the recruitment committee including the chairperson of the assessment committee.
Shortly after the application deadline all applicants will be notified whether or not their application has been selected for assessment.
The shortlisted applicants will be informed about the composition of the assessment committee, and each applicant will be given the opportunity to comment on the composition of the committee and - later on - their assessment.
Once the recruitment process is completed, all applicants will be informed of the outcome of their application.
