The Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology , University of Southern Denmark, invites applications for an assistant professor in Cancer Biology. We are looking for an outstanding junior cancer researcher with an innovative mindset and intellectual curiosity to strengthen and complement the research profile of the Research unit for Translational Biology . The position is for a duration of three years from September 2023 or as soon as possible thereafter, and the candidate will be affiliated with the group of Associate Professor Paolo Ceppi. This is an exciting opportunity for highly motivated research talents to develop their independent research programme in a well-equipped and highly supportive environment.

All research areas within metabolism research in cancer biology will be considered, but candidates with research interests in understanding the role of nucleotide metabolism in tumours and to investigate metabolic crosstalk within the tumour microenvironment are especially encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will establish the research programme, ideally with national or international collaborations, within the Research Unit for Translational Biology and the Ceppi lab. The successful candidate is expected to supervise student projects from Bachelor to PhD level, disseminate the results through publication in international peer-reviewed journals and seek external research funding. The candidate will be enrolled in the SDU Lecturer Training Programme and the SDU Research Academy to enhance qualifications in university didactics and research management, respectively.

The successful candidate should have:

  • A PhD in Cancer Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or a related field
  • At least three years of postdoctoral experience
  • A strong publication record with first-author publications in leading international journals, preferably in the topic of cancer metabolism
  • Direct experience and publications in animal work for cancer research
  • Experience of teaching at undergraduate level, and a strong commitment to teach and supervise students
  • A track record of successful collaborations
  • Strong communication and collaborative skills and an interest in working in an international and interdisciplinary environment
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Additional factors which will be evaluated positively (but which are not mandatory) include:

  • Having previously obtained external funding as primary applicant
  • Formal pedagogical qualifications
  • Prior experience of student supervision.
