Assistant Professor of Oral Pathology and Oral Medicine at Department of Odontology

We are looking for a highly motivated and dynamic researcher for an Assistant Professor position for a 3-year period to commence on 1 July 2022.
Candidates should have a strong background in oral pathology and oral medicine. 

Our research
Current research in oral pathology and oral medicine aims to investigate the underlying etiopathogenic mechanisms of a large variety of oral diseases (of the oral mucosa, salivary glands and jaw bones) to identify determinants and biomarkers that can support our additional research aim, namely to improve prediction, prevention, diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of oral diseases. Our research activities are often multidisciplinary, especially those focusing on the interactions between oral and systemic diseases, involving collaborators from various medical and pharmaceutical specialities, and include clinical, histological, immunological, molecular biological and therapeutic approaches.

Your job
As Assistant Professor your tasks will be to take active part in the development of the scientific field of oral pathology and oral medicine, by independently initiating your research projects. You will also take active part in the clinical and theoretical teaching of dental students within the field of oral pathology and oral medicine and related areas of odontology. Additionally, you will be trained and take part in in oral histopathological diagnostic.

The Assistant Professor’s responsibilities will primarily consist of:

  • research, including publication/academic dissemination duties
  • research-based teaching
  • sharing knowledge with society
  • participation in formal pedagogical training programme for assistant professors

Furthermore, we are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic scientist with the following skills and experience:

Essential experience and skills:

  • You are a Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (DMD)
  • License to practice (JUS) or plan for obtaining license
  • You have a PhD  
  • You are highly experienced in oral pathology and oral medicine and related fields
  • You are highly experienced in using molecular biological methods
  • You have an active interest in oral pathology and oral medicine and demonstrated use of histological methods
  • You have pre- and postgraduate teaching experience within oral pathology and oral medicine
  • Proficient communication skills and ability to work in teams
  • Excellent English skills written and spoken.

Desirable experience and skills:

  • You are experienced in managing and conducting clinical trials
  • You are experienced in collaboration with other specialities and stakeholders

Place of employment
The place of employment is at the Department of Odontology, Panum Institute, Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen. We offer creative and stimulating working conditions in dynamic and international research environment. Our research facilities include modern laboratories and a clinic for Oral Medicine. Around 200 patients are referred to this clinic annually from dentists and various medical specialties, and an additional number of patients is attending the clinic for regular follow-ups. In the clinic and teaching, oral medicine and oral pathology are closely linked.

Terms of employment
The average weekly working hours are 37 hours per week.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The start date is 1 July 2022 or after agreement.
Salary, pension and other conditions of employment are set in accordance with the Agreement between the Ministry of Finance and AC (Danish Confederation of Professional Associations) or other relevant organisation. Currently, the monthly salary starts at 36,800 DKK/approx. 4,940 EUR (October 2021 level). Depending on qualifications, a supplement may be negotiated. The employer will pay an additional 17.1 % to your pension fund.

Foreign and Danish applicants may be eligible for tax reductions if they hold a PhD degree and have not lived in Denmark the last 10 years.

The position is covered by the Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities 2020.

    The further process
