At the Technical Faculty of IT and Design, Department of Electronic Systems, a position as Assistant Professor in Wireless connectivity is open for appointment from January 1, 2022, or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 3 years. In electronics engineering, Aalborg University is known worldwide for its high academic quality and the societal relevance of its research programmes. The Department of Electronic Systems consists of more than 200 employees, of which about 40% are international and about 90 are enrolled PhD students. The Department hosts 620 students. The Department's excellent research infrastructures and facilities accentuate its global position in teaching and research. The Department's research centres around communication, antennas, control systems, AI, sound, cybersecurity and robotics. The Department plays an active role in translating discoveries and results into practical applications with industrial partners and IPR. The Department provides teaching for several BSc and MSc programmes using a problem- and project-based learning model.


Job description

The position is within the connected intelligence research group and will involve the development of communications and network protocols, based on machine learning and classical mathematical models, to address the challenges of wireless systems beyond 5G and towards 6G. The research work will be particularly focused on reliability, latency, and timing aspects in the future IoT, applying communication theoretical concepts in different relevant scenarios. 

The selected candidate should have internationally recognized research experience in at least one of the following areas:

  • Internet of Things (IoT)
  • Mathematical modeling of communication systems
  • Design of wireless communication systems and protocols
  • Transport layer protocol design and optimization
  • Latency-oriented networking
  • Learning-based wireless communication system design

 The main tasks and responsibilities include:

  • Research, including publication of results and supervision of students
  • Teaching within computer engineering and communication on Bachelor and Master level
  • Acquiring research funding and coordinating funded projects
  • Strengthening of our relationship with private industry partners within the field.

 Qualification requirements:

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.


Shortlisting will be applied. After the review of any objections regarding the assessment committee, the head of department, with assistance from the chair of the assessment committee, selects the candidates to be assessed. Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities (the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
