For appointment as assistant professor, the successful candidate is expected to:

  • teach, supervise and examine students in bachelor's and master's degree programmes in Learning and Change Processes including intercultural and cultural learning processes in educational institutions and in organizations and internationalization of education in institutions and organizations.
  • conduct research and publish research products at a high-quality level in recognised venues
  • participate in external research networks and partnerships, and in doing so create and maintain productive relationships with researchers across disciplines.
  • engage in knowledge collaboration and dissemination activities related to the position's scientific portfolio
  • contribute in a positive and constructive manner to the overall activities and working environment of the Department of Culture and Learning and actively participate in a research group/centre, more specifically Centre for Education Policy Research(CfU).

Appointment as assistant professor requires academic qualifications at the PhD level, including an approved PhD thesis.

In relation to research, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the ability to deliver high-quality research
  • a research plan aligned with the Department of Culture and Learning and the profile of Centre for Education Policy Research and demonstrating the applicant's plans for developing new research products and projects
  • experience with research-informed interactions with society and communities.

It is considered an advantage if the candidates have experience with international collaboration, and they must have a strong publication record at the appropriate level of a coming assistant professor. In relation to teaching, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the ability to provide high-level instruction within the area of the learning- and education study programs including supervision, conducting seminars, lectures etc.
  • experience with different pedagogical approaches
  • experience with problem-based learning(PBL) is considered an advantage but is not a prerequisite
  • experience with developing teaching and supervision in intercultural contexts

The applicant is expected to document the ability to teach, supervise and assess both written and oral presentations in Danish. Alternatively, the successful applicant is expected to acquire relevant linguistic competence within an agreed timeframe. The applicant is from the outset expected to document the ability to teach, supervise and assess both written and oral presentations in English.

The position is affiliated with the research group Centre for Education Policy Research https://www.en.culture.aau.dk/research/research-groups/cfu ,an interdisciplinary research centre based on approaches from sociology, policy studies, history and ethnography, specializing in the studies of education policies and politics on macro-, meso- and micro-level.

Applicants are expected to be theoretically and methodologically well-versed in the education sciences in general and in education policy studies in particular. More specifically, applicants must have a strong research profile in the following areas:

  • Local, national and international policy and politics of education
  • Policy development and implementation in complex education systems on the local level
  • Qualitative and quantitative methodologies

  • A maximum of 5 publications can be attached for assessment. In case publications written in collaboration with co-authors are attached, a co-author statement must be enclosed, specifying the applicant's contribution to the joint work. The co-author statement must be signed by at least one of the co-authors.
  • Complete publication list, marking the attached publications which is to be taken into consideration in connection with the assessment.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas(Master- and PhD degrees).

In terms of personal qualities, the applicant is expected to have strong cooperative abilities as well as the ability to create and maintain productive relationships with researchers of various research and cultural backgrounds. A national as well as an international network is thus an advantage.

Daily attendance in the department is required. In addition, applicants must be prepared to actively participate in all aspects of the day-to-day activities of the department and study programmes. ASSISTANT PROFESSORSHIP
A position as assistant professor is a fixed-term training position which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To a limited extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University. The appointment includes a requirement to attend a course in university pedagogy for assistant professors organised by the University.

The employment as assistant professor must not exceed a total period of four years at the same institution(a maximum of six years at assistant professor level at AAU and a maximum of eight years at assistant professor level in Denmark).

ASSESSMENT
Applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select applicants for assessment. Before the shortlisting takes place, all applicants will get the opportunity to comment on the composition of the assessment committee. All applicants will be informed whether they are selected for assessment or not.

All assessed applicants will get the opportunity to comment on their own assessment, and may be invited to an interview and/or asked to give a trial lecture.

When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Wages and employment

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
