Associate Professor of Ultrafast spectroscopy
Department of Chemistry
Faculty of Science
University of Copenhagen
The Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science (SCIENCE), University of Copenhagen (UCPH) invites applications for a position as Associate Professor. The department has strong activities in synthesis and studies of molecules, nanostructures and materials with emissive, and optoelectronic properties, in which electronic excited-state dynamics play an important role. To strengthen this area further we offer a position in ultra-fast optical spectroscopy. The successful candidate will have in-depth experience with setting up and running pump-probe transient absorption instrumentation and experiments. We seek a researcher that can develop both instrumentation, own independent research directions, and engage in synergetic collaborations with the research and teaching ongoing in the Department.
The research of the candidate should preferably cover several of the following areas:
1. Development of ultrafast pump-probe and other time-resolved optical spectroscopies.
2. Studies of excited state dynamics of organic molecules and materials in condensed phase by combing ultrafast spectroscopy with other spectroscopies and theoretical methods.
3. Development/studies of fluorescent molecules and/or materials for bio-imaging and/or sensing.
The successful candidate will have an independent research profile and an international research record with relevant research background as listed above. It is crucial that the candidate is able to foster strong collaborations within relevant areas, has proven the ability to attract external funding, and is willing to apply for further funding for ultrafast spectroscopy development in the department.
Applicants are required to have university level teaching experience, documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.
Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department.
Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.
Six overall criteria apply for associate professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organisational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. Furthermore, each candidate must be assessed according to the specific requirements stated in the job advertisement.
