We are looking for a highly qualified researcher to join the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports at the University of Copenhagen. The successful applicant will be specialized in bioactive fats and their interaction with human health. Skills and knowledge within the following areas of research would be relevant to the strategic mission of the Department: Human nutrition and the role of fats with focus on essential fatty acids in relation to growth, development, and health. A focus on diet-gene-interactions and other means to elucidate potential biological mechanisms will be considered a strength. Experience with clinical research in human volunteers and with methodologies and techniques related to mental health as well as experience with epidemiological research would be considered a merit.

The successful candidate will have a substantial publication record within a relevant research area which includes publications in high-impact journals. The successful applicant will also have documented experience with independent teaching at higher education institutions, as well as management and leadership skills. Furthermore, the candidate must demonstrate an outstanding knowledge of national and international funding possibilities as well as a state-of-the-art funding plan for expansion of the research topic over the next 5 years. The candidate is expected to expand the departmental research activities related to bioactive food components.

Applicants are required to have solid university level teaching experience (BA and Master), documented teaching competencies and must be able to explain and reflect upon own teaching practice and portfolio. Formal pedagogical training or supervision equivalent to the University of Copenhagen teacher training programme for assistant professors is required.

Duties include the applicant’s own research, development of the field, assessment tasks, grant applications, and research management such as supervision and training of research fellows and other staff. The successful applicant must also teach, supervise, prepare and participate in examinations, and fulfill other tasks requested by the Department. Specifically, the position includes responsibility for teaching all aspects of fats in human nutrition.

Assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, original scientific production at an international level, including contributions to developments in their field, as well as their documented teaching qualifications. Managerial and out-reach qualifications of applicants including ability to attract external funding will also be considered.

Six overall criteria apply for professor appointments at the University of Copenhagen. The six criteria (research, teaching, societal impact, organizational contribution, external funding and leadership) are considered a framework for an overall assessment of the candidates. The professor will be affiliated with the section Lifecourse Nutrition & Health https://nexs.ku.dk/english/research/lifecourse-nutrition-and-health/ . The section conducts fundamental, public health-oriented, and applied nutrition research using both high-quality randomized trials and observational studies. We aim to create the evidence base for nutritional strategies which promote optimal physiological function and development, promote health and prevent disease in humans.

Our research spans from pre-conception over childhood to adulthood in both high- and low-income countries. The focus in adulthood is the relation between obesity and cardiometabolic function and lifestyle factors such as nutrition and physical activity.
