The appointment as Associate Professor will be a fixed full-time position, which will include both research and teaching activities.

The position will primarily be attached to the section Mediated Communication(MC) which explores communication practices and media usage with a specific interest for the intersections between aesthetics, politics, and everyday life.

In terms of research, we seek applicants with significant expertise in research focused on understanding the impact of the environmental crisis on both society and individual lives. This entails exploring a broad spectrum of dimensions, ranging from the examination of values, communication, cultural norms, practices, traditions and imagined futures, to the analysis of aesthetics, local contexts, institutional dynamics, professional engagements, and political involvement, as well as civic participation within society. Ideal applicants will possess specialized knowledge within this area, with a robust methodological and theoretical foundation to support their research.

The selected candidate will thus conduct research and teach within at least two of the following areas: 

  • Communication and sustainability
  • Cultural norms, practices, traditions
  • The aesthetics and politics of climate communication
  • Imagined futures and civic participation and engagement. 

In terms of teaching
The position includes teaching at the Department’s educations and applicants are expected to have teaching experience in one or more of the above-mentioned research areas. 

The employed are expected to deliver high quality teaching, supervision, and associated examination, as required across the range of modules offered on the Communication and Digital Media program.  

In relation to teaching, applicants should document:  

  • Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to deliver high quality teaching, using a range of pedagogical approaches including problembased learning, project supervision, group work, interactive seminars and lectures. 
  • Ability to teach, supervise, and assess written and oral performances in Danish. Given the international elements in some of the Danish degree programs, the successful applicant must be able to teach in English as well as Danish. International applicants are expected to learn Danish. 
  • Aalborg University works with a problem-based learning model(PBL). Documented experience with PBL is not mandatory, although it would be an advantage. If you haven’t completed a PBL-course, you will be required to do so within your first year of employment. 

In terms of research
The successful candidate is expected to undertake research and publish research output of an internationally recognized quality and engage in external research networks and collaborations.  

In relation to research, applicants should document:  

  • Experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the applicant's ability to deliver research at the highest level.
  • A personal research plan which is consistent with the Department of Communication and Psychology research strategy and demonstrates the potential to develop new research projects. 
  • Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to develop external and/or international networks and collaborations. 
  • Experience, skills and achievements that demonstrate the ability or potential to engage in activities with actors outside academia to enhance the impact of research. 
  • Experience in obtaining external funding and experience in engaging in externally funded projects. 

Other expectations
In terms of personal qualities, the applicant is expected to have strong cooperative abilities, and the ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with researchers of various research, social and cultural backgrounds. A national as well as an international network is an advantage.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP
An appointment as associate professor is a permanent appointment which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To some extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for the associate professorship are required to possess research qualifications at such a level as can be attained through the successful completion of a term of employment as assistant professor, researcher, postdoc or other similar positions. Applicants must document research at an international level. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.

Assessment
Applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select applicants for assessment. Before shortlisting takes place, all applicantswill be informed of the composition of the assessment committee. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.

All assessed applicants  will get the opportunity to comment on their own assessment, and may subsequently be invited to an interview and/or asked to give a trial lecture.

When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Employment and remuneration will be in accordance with the collective agreements for academics employed by the Danish state.
