For appointment as associate professor, the successful applicant is expected to:

  • teach, supervise and examine students in relevant modules in bachelor and master degree programmes at the departments programme and in especially in the programs in learning and change processes, including pedagogical leadership and governance.
  • conduct and publish research at the highest level in internationally recognised venues.
  • participate in external research networks and partnerships, and in doing so create and maintain productive relationships with researchers of different research-disciplines.
  • engage in knowledge collaboration and dissemination related to the position's scientific portfolio.
  • contribute in a positive and constructive manner to the overall activities and working environment of the Department of Culture and Learning and actively participate in a research group/centre, more specifically Centre for Education Policy Research(CfU).

In terms of research, we are looking for applicants who has substantive experience with empirical research that aims to study the politics and practice of education in local, national and transnational contexts. We are interested in applicants that specializes in one or more of the following areas or across them:

  • Education policy research and practice and the study of key actors such as the local, institutional and professional level such as local politicians, school managers, teachers, parents and interest organization.
  • Education research within and beyond the education system, its institutional practices and the society and state it forms part of by means of ethnographic and historical approaches or across them.

In addition, the applicants are expected to have a strong background in the theoretical traditions within education research, preferably in combination with other types of social theory.

In relation to research, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the applicant's ability to deliver research at the highest level.
  • a research plan that harmonizes with the Department of Culture and Learning and the profile of Centre for Education Policy Research and shows the applicant's plans for developing new research products and projects.
  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the applicant's ability to engage in and develop external(national and international) partnerships.
  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the applicant's ability to engage in relevant research partnerships.
  • experience in obtaining external funding and experience in engaging in externally funded projects.

In relation to teaching, the applicant is expected to document:

  • experience, competences and achievements demonstrating the ability to provide the highest-level instruction within the area of the learning and change processes-programmes, with various pedagogical considerations and approaches, including supervision, conducting seminars, lectures etc.
  • at Aalborg University our learning approach is problem-based learning(PBL). Documented experience with this learning approach is therefore considered an advantage.

The applicant is expected to document the ability to teach, supervise and assess both written and oral presentations in Danish. Alternatively, the successful applicant is expected to acquire relevant linguistic competence within an agreed timeframe. The applicant is from the outset expected to document the ability to teach, supervise and assess both written and oral presentations in English.

The position is affiliated with the research group Centre for Education Policy Researchhttps://www.en.culture.aau.dk/research/research-groups/cfu , an interdisciplinary research centre based on approaches from sociology, history, political science and ethnography, specializing in the studies of education policies, politics and practices on macro-, meso- and micro-level in local, national and transnational contexts.

In terms of personal qualities, the applicant is expected to have strong cooperative abilities, and the ability to establish and maintain productive relationships with researchers of various research- and social and cultural backgrounds. A national as well as an international network is an advantage.

ASSOCIATE PROFESSORSHIP
An appointment as associate professor is a permanent appointment which includes an obligation to carry out research and teaching activities. To some extent, additional tasks may be defined by the University.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Applicants for the associate professorship are required to possess research qualifications at such a level as can be attained through the successful completion of a term of employment as assistant professor, researcher, postdoc or other similar positions. Applicants must document research at an international level. In addition, applicants are assumed to have received supervision and pedagogical skills development and to have obtained a positive written assessment of their teaching qualifications.

Assessment
Applicants will be assessed by an assessment committee.

Shortlisting will be applied. This means that subsequent to the deadline for applications the head of department supported by the chair of the assessment committee will select applicants for assessment. Before shortlisting takes place, all applicants will be informed of the composition of the assessment committee. All applicants will be informed whether they will be assessed or not.

All assessed applicants  will get the opportunity to comment on their own assessment, and may subsequently be invited to an interview and/or asked to give a trial lecture.

When the employment process has been terminated, a final rejection will be sent to the applicants who are not considered for the position.

Employment will be in accordance with the stipulations of the Danish Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(The Appointment Order), and the Danish Ministry of Finance's current circular on Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and remuneration will be in accordance with the collective agreements for academics employed by the Danish state.
