At Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment, a position as Postdoc in the Research Group of Indoor Environmental Quality and Building Systems is open for appointment from Dec. 1, 2021 or soon hereafter. The position is available for a period of 3 years. Department of the Built Environment focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within the built environment. Research areas span from Indoor Environment and Energy Efficient buildings, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Wave Energy to Traffic along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. As an employee at the Department of the Built Environment, you become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations. 


Job description

Research areas will be within assessment of indoor environmental quality, emphasising the combined effects of thermal, visual, acoustic, and atmospheric indoor environment.

You will help establish a new research effort within holistic indoor environment that aims to combine existing expertise in individual indoor environmental disciplines to improve understanding of the combined effects. You will be part of a research group with expertise within indoor environment from a range of perspectives, including building systems for atmospheric and thermal performance, lighting and visual environments, air distribution, post-occupancy evaluations, and occupant health. You will work on the following topics:

  • Development of methods to assess all indoor environmental quality parameters relevant for the specific case
  • Development of indoor environmental quality screening tools that combine ease of use with robust results and thus can provide design decision support
  • Quantification of indoor environmental parameters, both individually and aggregated
  • Investigation of the combined influence of several indoor environmental parameters on occupants (interaction effects)
  • Exploration of the concept of indoor environmental well-being and how positive environmental stimuli can increase occupant happiness

Limited teaching within the area can be expected, but also in other study programmes at the University.

Qualification requirements: 

Appointment as Postdoc presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment. Appointment as a Postdoc cannot exceed a period of four years in total at Aalborg University.
