At the Faculty of Engineering and Science, Department of the Built Environment in Copenhagen one or more positions as Associate Professor or Assistant Professor in Life Cycle Assessment of Buildings is open for appointment from October 1 2021 or soon hereafter. The position as assistant professor is a full-time four year temporary position. The position as associate professor is a full-time permanent position. Applicants must clearly indicate the category of position for which they are applying. Applicants must indicate clearly the category of position (assistant professor or associate professor) for which they are applying. Applications in which this is not specified will not be considered. The Department of the Built Environment focuses on the technical and scientific disciplines within the built environment. Research areas span from Indoor Environment and Energy Efficient buildings, Wind Turbines, Structural Design, Structural Materials, Geotechnical Engineering, Wave Energy to Traffic along with many other areas. The research is conducted in a national as well as an international research environment. The department takes on contract research for both public institutions and private companies. The research projects involve both theoretical research and in situ measurements along with laboratory experiments. As an employee at the Department of the Built Environment, you become a part of an international research environment, where focus is on innovation, knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary collaborations. 


Job description

Research areas will be within life cycle assessment and other sustainability assessments of building materials, buildings and the built environment.

You will be part of a research team that works with the development of tools and methods for assessing the environmental sustainability within the built environment. The research group has a strong focus on life cycle assessments, circular economy and assessment of the sustainability of buildings. You will work on the following topics:

  • Development of tools for various design phases (and detail levels) of buildings and the built environment
  • Life cycle assessment of buildings and the built environment
  • Development of methods and tools for assessing environmental impacts of the built environment
  • Environmental and sustainability assessment within the built environment
  • Circular economy within the built environment

Teaching will primarily be in sustainability assessment and life cycle assessment of buildings and the built environment, but also in other study programs at the University.

Qualification requirements for Associate Professors

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

The application must contain the following:

  • A motivated text wherein the reasons for applying, qualifications in relation to the position, and intentions and visions for the position are stated.
  • A current curriculum vitae.
  • Copies of relevant diplomas (Master of Science and PhD). On request you could be asked for an official English translation.
  • Scientific qualifications. A complete list of publications must be attached with an indication of the works the applicant wishes to be considered. You may attach up to 10 publications.
  • Teaching qualifications described in the teaching portfolio.  If this is not enclosed the applicant must include an explanation for its absence.
  • Dissemination qualifications, including participation on committees or boards, participation in organisations and the like.
  • Additional qualifications in relation to the position.
  • References/recommendations.
  • Personal data.

Qualification requirements Assistant Professors

Appointment as an Assistant Professor presupposes scientific qualifications at PhD–level or similar scientific qualifications. The research potential of each applicant will be emphasized in the overall assessment.

Appointment as an Assistant Professor cannot exceed a period of four years in total in a temporary position (appointment at Assistant Professor level cannot exceed a period of eight years in total in Denmark).

  • Publications you wish to be considered by the assessment committee. You may attach up to 5 publications.
  • A specification of your teaching qualifications relative to the teaching portfolio. If this is not enclosed you must include an explanation for its absence.
  • References/recommendations.

Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
