We are the Czech Republic’s flagship basic research institute based at Masaryk University. Our postdoctoral programme will enable you to participate in one of many exciting scientific projects addressing current global issues related to health and the quality of human life. You will have the opportunity to discuss and develop ideas and train your ability to reason in a scientific manner, formulate hypotheses independently, to innovate, and to perform independent research. About this position
A postdoctoral opportunity is available within the Gabriel Demo Research Group, specializing in the exploration of translation regulation mechanisms. The group's research is centred on diverse translation regulation pathways in both bacterial and mammalian cells. This project will focus on the structural intricacies of frameshifting and translocation events in bacterial ribosomes, particularly focusing on tRNAs with additional stem-loops. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art instruments such as Titan Krios and Talos Arctica for cryo-electron microscopy data collection, available either in-house or through local core facilities, with regular accessibility.
We are seeking a creative, independent and driven individual with documented research experience related to this position. Candidates with solid research experience in structural biology and translation are encouraged to apply.
You have (necessary competencies)
- A PhD degree or equivalent in biochemistry or structural biology received within the last 5 years (maternity/parental leave is excluded from this period)
- Expertise in cryo-electron microscopy data collection and structure determination
- Expertise in bacterial or eukaryotic translation
- A publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Interpersonal skills required to supervise junior members of the research group
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
