Academic Staff Member for the Department of Forest Protection and Wildlife Management

Research field: tree diseases, oomycetes, Phytophthora, root rots

We are a modern university, teaching and researching agriculture, forestry, economic and technical disciplines in regional and international contexts. Since 2018, we have been the holder of the HR Excellence in Research Award for improving employee care, awarded to us as the first Czech university by the European Commission.

The project objective is to create an excellence research team focused on research of Phytophthora diseases. Its aim is to contribute to a deeper understanding of factors affecting diversity,  adaptation and hybridization processes in the important oomycete genus Phytophthora through the application and implementation of innovative technologies based on microbiology, bioinformatics, biology, ecophysiology, anatomy of plants  and bioclimatology, evolutionary history of this genus and molecular mechanisms driving susceptibility and resistance of oaks against soilborne pathogens from the genus Phytophthora.

What will be your job role?

• solving problems of cryopreservation of oomycetes and fungi, micropropagation of woody plants, genetics of woody plant pathogen
• supervision of student theses
• conducting teaching in disciplinary subjects
• participation in the preparation of project applications
• active cooperation in scientific research projects
• publishing the results of scientific research activities

What are our requirements?

• a university degree at Ph.D. level in tree biology and plant medicine
• previous experience in the field for at least 3 years
• ability to lead small scientific research teams
• experience with Oomycet spraying
• excellent knowledge of Czech, ability to teach and publish in English
• ability to participate in the preparation of scientific projects
• demonstrable publication experience
