Postdoctoral Fellow

Updated: almost 2 years ago
Job Type: FullTime
Deadline: 19 Aug 2022

Postdoctoral Fellow position in the Division of Marine and Environmental Research, Laboratory for Physical Chemistry of Traces (Ruđer Bošković Institute, Zagreb, Croatia). The postdoctoral fellow will be associated with the Croatian Science Foundation (CSF) project "Marine (micro)plastic litter and pollutant metals interaction: a possible pathway from marine environment to human" (METALPATH). The aim of the METALPATH research project is to understand interaction of plastics and toxic metals and the way in which plastic debris can modify and control trace metals biogeochemical cycling, especially in coastal areas where inland and marine mixing processes take place. The specific objective of postdoctoral fellow work will be to expand the current incomplete knowledge about the transfer of potentially toxic (Hg, Cd, Pb), as well as bio essential metals (Cu, Zn) from the marine environment to the marine (micro)plastics and subsequently to marine organisms and in the entire food chain, which can indirectly affect human health. Postdoctoral fellow will acquire knowledge about the biogeochemical circulation of trace metals in the marine environment and their interaction with (micro)plastics in all compartments of the marine environment.
