Duties and Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chair, Law and Legal Studies, under the supervision of the Department Administrator, and with regular guidance from the Experiential Learning (EL) Supervisor, the Experiential Learning Coordinator provides primary support for all experiential learning opportunities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels in the Department of Law and Legal Studies. Responsibilities include all administration and coordination aspects of experiential learning, including the recruitment, application, assessment, selection processes and administration of the programs. In order to help promote the Experiential Learning opportunities, the Coordinator uses both digital communications and a variety of events to assist with marketing and advertising. An important responsibility is the identification, outreach and relationship building to help secure and maintain valuable experiential opportunities for our students within high quality organizations and law firms. In addition, as the first point of contact, the Coordinator supports the students and employers during the placement periods to ensure student success and employer satisfaction. In addition, due to the large number of undergraduate students, this position also provides general academic assistance to undergraduate students, in support of the Undergraduate Administrator.


Qualifications:

The incumbent must possess the following qualifications:
• Excellent organization, prioritization and time management skills in order to administer and coordinate the program, while supporting students, faculty and partners,
• Reliability and ability to work in a fast-paced environment, while paying attention to details in order to meet conflicting deadlines with accuracy,
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written are required to provide clear and accurate information to our students, faculty and industry partners with tact and professionalism,
• Excellent interpersonal skills are essential to successfully coordinate the program, support students and faculty and build and maintain relationships with our internal and external professional partners,
• Experience in higher-education environment with knowledge of academic policies, procedures, regulations and the university structure to provide accurate and relevant information to students, supervisors, faculty members and partners both within and outside the department,
• The ability to learn the several programs within the Department to provide specific advice regarding experiential learning opportunities in relation to the programs in order to help recruit and advice the students successfully,
• Experience recruiting, interviewing, assessing and selecting candidates would be an asset,
• Experience developing and maintaining websites (using Wordpress),
• Demonstrated knowledge of current social media platforms and how to use them effectively to help promote, market and advertise the experiential learning opportunities for our prospective and current students,
• Personal initiative is essential to work independently, with good teamwork skills to work in collaboration with the faculty, students, staff and partners to successfully coordinator the program,
• Must have strong computer and database skills


Education and Experience:

The above is normally acquired through the completion of:
• The completion of a 3-year undergraduate university degree.
• Three years of related experience, including at least one year experience an academic environment advising students, with knowledge of placements or work experience programs and/or recruitment and outreach.

Health and Safety Requirements

This position is regularly required to work on campus in person. If this happens, you will work with your direct manager to set up a remote work environment including discussing appropriate technology and requirements. You are required to follow all University policies and directives, including to set up a safe and confidential workspace in a remote location and ensure all Carleton property (intellectual and other) is safeguarded. If required to work remotely, you will be notified by your manager when working full time physically onsite will resume.
