Location

Work primarily takes place at North Campus Edmonton. This role is hybrid with a mix of remote and in-person.

Working for the Department/Faculty

The Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise within the Office of the Registrar specializes in the recruitment of domestic undergraduate students to the University of Alberta.

Position

The hours of work for this position will be varied, including a requirement to work evenings and weekends. This position requires overtime, possible travel within Canada, and occasional evening and weekend work. 

Reporting directly to the Student Recruitment Service Partner, the Student Recruiter position will work as part of a dedicated action team that will support all undergraduate student recruitment activities within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, which includes the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Science, and the Faculty of Agricultural, Life, and Environmental Sciences. As an important team member within the overarching Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise in the Office of the Registrar, the Student Recruiter position at the College-level is responsible for the dissemination of information and effective promotion of the University of Alberta to prospective high school students across Canada. This exciting and diverse position is also responsible for event planning, preparing and delivering presentations, answering prospective student and applicant inquiries, organizing and executing administrative recruitment details, and researching recruitment trends as required to recruit exceptional prospective students to the faculties within the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, and to the broader university. This position may require occasional travel within Edmonton, Alberta and Canada, targeting select high schools, colleges, and special events to recruit prospective students via presentations and one on one interactions, including driving a U of A fleet vehicle to local and rural Alberta recruitment events. In addition, recruiting and connecting with prospective students using virtual platforms will be required. 

Duties

  • Targets select high schools and special events to recruit prospective students via engaging presentations, booth fairs and one-on-one advising 
  • Provides on-campus and virtual advising to prospective students, parents, and guests in both 1:1 and group settings
  • Responds to both routine and non-standard inquiries about the university, work integrated learning opportunities, student services, admission requirements, and admission status. Answers a range of questions on a variety of subject areas (such as the conversion of domestic curricula, IP/AP conversion, connections to career pathways and scholarships, etc.) Escalates inquiries when required. 
  • Promotes the University of Alberta at various recruitment events and cultivates relationships with prospective high school students and their parents, including extensive public speaking 
  • Works closely with all positions within the College recruitment action team, as well as the Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise, to address the strategic needs of the faculties within the College, as well as the university 
  • Develops, grows and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, such as high school counsellors, on behalf of the College 
  • Responds to student, parent and counsellor inquiries
  • Engages audiences in an age appropriate, culturally aware, and inclusive manner 
  • Plans and executes College and faculty-specific special events, including Registration Workshops, Information Sessions, Advising sessions, and other special events, both virtual and in-person 
  • Participates in coordinated recruitment activities with other student recruiters, colleagues within the Undergraduate Recruitment Centre of Expertise, and other client groups 
  • Evaluates attended recruitment initiatives by reporting prospective engagement, lead generation, number of publications provided, event attendance, and other meaningful notes describing the purpose and utility of the event for evaluation and future planning purposes 
  • Brainstorms and proposes new and innovative ideas to improve prospective student engagement for the purpose of recruitment 
  • Drives the collection of leads from potential students and monitors their progression throughout the enrollment funnel. Enters data into university systems in order to track potential applicants.
  • Assists prospective students in the application for admission process. Helps to troubleshoot admission challenges to ensure admissibility of the applicant pool. Works with applicants to encourage offer acceptance and yield, ultimately increasing enrolment at the University 
  • Keeps admitted students engaged and continually conveys the value of attending the UofA; plans and implements yield initiatives accordingly 
  • Assists in the development of virtual recruitment tools and resources, such as creating virtual booths on behalf of faculties, Colleges, and the university, tip sheets, chat rooms)? 
  • Performs other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Alberta; equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered 
  • One to two years of related experience is an asset 
  • Experience presenting to small and large groups 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with high attention to detail 
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, ability to establish andmaintain a good rapport with a variety of stakeholders 
  • Excellent organizational, time management and customer service skills 
  • Demonstrated problem solving, judgment, and critical thinking 
  • Well-developed planning, time management and organizational skills; ability to meetdeadlines and thrive under pressure in a fast paced and dynamic work environment 
  • Ability to maintainhigh levels of professionalism 
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and cooperatively within a team 
  • Ability to lift up to 25kgs 
  • Knowledge of University of Alberta policies and procedures is an asset 
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License (GDL removed); 3-year driver's abstract will be required 
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google Products (Gmail, etc); knowledge of PeopleSoft and Slate is an asset
