A highly talented post-doctoral fellow is sought to engage in both research and research translation initiatives for a new research organization being established at the University of Toronto called the Laboratory of Applied Informatics Research (LAIR). The lab focusses on large-scale cyberinfrastructures for data, software, and autonomous intelligent agents (robots) in support of collaborative, open, scalable and distributed compute-intensive tasks for critical domains such as healthcare, advanced research, online education and cultural preservations. The fellow is expected to have strong expertise in one or more of the following areas: text mining and retrieval, data visualization, user modeling, federated data architectures, and distributed AI. The goal of the lab is to create new search and retrieval algorithms, user-machine workflow methods, and multimodal and intelligent user interfaces. A strong plus would be familiarity with AI and analytics methods that focus on bias mitigation and support equitable and fair interactions with systems and data. Experience in translational research activities such as organizing international research conferences and workshops, handling invention disclosures, patents, and licenses, and launching for- or non-profit spinoffs from academic labs will be given high weight in consideration. Some of the recent publications from the lab can be found here: https://discover.research.utoronto.ca/54363-javed-mostafa/publications
