Postdoctoral Research Fellow

Updated: 4 days ago
Location: Central Toronto Roselawn, ONTARIO
Job Type: FullTime

Description

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position at the Lunenfeld-Tanenbaum Research Institute, Sinai Health, to participate in our CIHR-funded program in Fetal Brain Protection . The preterm human infant is vulnerable to neurotoxicity due to immaturity of the blood-brain barrier. The developing brain has intrinsic protective transporter systems that can prevent transfer of xenobiotics into the brain. However, little is known as to how these transporters are regulated during the fetal and perinatal period. Our program is focused towards increasing knowledge in this critical area and to identify strategies to improve fetal and neonatal brain health.

The successful candidate will undertake studies to investigate the function and regulation of drug transporter systems in the developing blood-brain barrier. These will include primarily cell-based approaches but may also include in vivo experiments in pre-clinical models. Advanced blood-brain barrier modelling will be utilized along with cellular and molecular approaches, including imaging, transcriptomic and epigenetic analysis. Particular emphasis will be placed on the interaction of cell-types within the neurovascular unit in the regulation of blood-brain barrier function.

One postdoctoral fellowship is immediately available to join Professor Matthews’ Lab. The successful candidate will develop research based on well-delineated hypotheses to generate novel experimental data. The position will initially be for one year with the possibility of a one-year renewal.

Qualifications

This fellowship is suitable for candidates who have a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular, or developmental biology, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology or relevant fields. Significant experience with in vitro cell culture, protein and mRNA quantification, transcriptomics, proteomics, epigenetics and bioinformatics will be a major asset. Excellent writing and presentation skills are also required.

Application Instructions

Please submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and contact information of three references.

Application deadline is June 23, 2024.

We thank all those expressed interests. Only candidates who are shortlisted will be contacted.
