This position is a part of the Association of the Academic Staff of the University of Alberta (AASUA).

This is a tenure-track position at the Librarian I level with a current salary range of $62,231 - $124,387. Working within a team environment, under the direction of the Head, Faculty Engagement (Sciences, Engineering & Business), the Librarian contributes to the Library’s services which may include teaching, research support, and support for digital scholarship, research data, metrics and other activities to help users in the discovery and use of library services and resources while demonstrating expertise in the use of technology to provide access to library services and collections.

Role:

The Librarian provides expert information services, including consultation, education and research support for faculty, students, and staff. This includes specialized services around digital scholarship, research data management and impact analysis. 

The Librarian develops, teaches, and evaluates curriculum based courses and workshops, sections of courses, or single instructional sessions or workshops.

The Librarian contributes to the delivery of the full range of library services and access to resources through the use of technology, evidence based-practices and sharing of information with colleagues. The Librarian works collegially, cooperatively and in a self-directed manner to provide innovative, high quality services and programs to all university library clientele, and undertakes professional development activities to support these responsibilities. 

The Librarian participates in system-wide teams, projects and programmes and contributes to the development of key library initiatives by participating on relevant teams/committees.

The Librarian participates in, and seeks opportunities for conducting research and evaluation of services and collections in assigned areas. This may include professional and scholarly research, applying for and holding research funding as a principal applicant

Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited institution or equivalent is required
  • Previous experience in an academic library setting required
  • An awareness of trends in science and engineering research and teaching and the broad array of science and engineering information resources

Preferences:

  • Previous experience in a Sciences or Engineering library including teaching and providing support for biological and life sciences is preferred
  • Experience teaching and providing consultation and reference support for systematic reviews and patents is preferred
  • Familiarity with new and emerging technologies (such as 3D printing, audio and video production, and virtual reality applications) in library services is desired
  • Experience integrating Equity, Diversity and Inclusion principles into instruction and service delivery is preferred

Candidates will demonstrate evidence of the ability to work collaboratively in a team-based environment, and the ability to be flexible to changing circumstances. Candidates will possess a high level of competence with electronic information sources and new technologies, demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, organizational and analytical skills, leadership qualities, and evidence of ongoing professional development and involvement. Successful candidates will also be interested in and seek opportunities for conducting research and contributing to the profession.
