The Opportunity
Student Services’ role is to create a culture and environment that unleashes the full potential of all students at SAIT. Our primary goal is to support a student-first culture by focusing on student success — and mobilizing all campus community members in this shared goal. We are comprised of a variety of service units that are designed to help learners reach their full academic potential and foster lifelong learning. Student Services provides each student with opportunities to develop skills and build relationships and networks that promote professional, social and personal fulfillment — and ultimately lay the foundation for their success.
As a member of the Learning Skills Services team in the Lamb Learner Success Centre, the Learning Strategist plays an integral role in supporting the academic success and holistic development of students at SAIT. The Learning Strategist develops and facilitates workshops and seminars on topics related to academic success, such as time management, reading strategies, note-taking, improving memory, preparing for and taking tests, and more. The Learning Strategist collaborates with instructors and academic chairs to develop and implement program-specific workshops that enhance learning outcomes and support student engagement. The Learning Strategist meets individually with students to provide customized support on active learning strategies, working in groups, and self-advocacy skills.
The Learning Strategist must develop a positive working relationship with each student and be able to modify their strategies and approach to address the presenting concerns of the student. These abilities play a significant role in the academic success, retention and satisfaction of the student. The Learning Strategist must tailor the information to the needs of the student, as it can significantly influence a student’s attitude towards learning, studying and success at SAIT. The Learning Strategist also provides outreach to students in academic difficulty and provides support for students on academic probation.
