Reporting to the Academic Chair, Open Studies, Academic Services, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for assessing and enhancing the asynchronous course shells for the asynchronous (online) courses in both Academic Upgrading and Open Studies. The Asynchronous Instructional designer will make recommendations for quality, consistency, and student engagement for Open Studies and Academic Upgrading.
The work will take place in 3 phases. You must be able to demonstrate excellence in your communication skills, organizational skills and function in a collaborative team environment
This is a short-term casual position. Estimated hours for the successful candidate to complete the project is a total of 80 hours.
The Role
    • Develop an Audit tool: Collaborate with Academic Chairs to create an audit tool for assessing asynchronous course shells.
    • Course Shell Assessment: Evaluate course shells in Academic Upgrading and Open Studies using the developed checklist to identify strengths and areas for improvement.
    • Recommendation Development: Generate detailed recommendations for enhancing the quality, consistency, and engagement of the asynchronous courses.
    • Training Module Creation: Create a took kit aiming to enhance instructional effectiveness and the student experience.

Qualifications & Experience
    • Bachelor's degree or master's degree in education, online learning or similar field would be considered an asset.
    • Familiar with and comfortable using computer applications relevant to instructional design such as Microsoft Office suite and rapid e-learning tools.
    • Experience using a learning management system (LMS) such as Brightspace in course design.
    • Expertise in a variety of teaching modalities including online
    • Background in adult education
    • Ability to apply instructional design principles and methodologies to a broad array of curriculum development situations.
    • Knowledge of educational terminology.
    • Ability to work effectively with subject matter experts and SAIT faculty.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
    • Excellent research and organizational skills.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    • Post-secondary experience, an asset.
