Implementation scientist

The Office of Lifelong Learning and Physician Learning Program (PLP) is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FoMD), and works to enhance the knowledge and skills of community practitioners in quality improvement initiatives. PLP's mandate is to support physicians and teams in advancing practice by addressing learning needs, providing information, practice data, feedback reports, along with knowledge transfer activities. We are looking for an Implementation Scientist that cares about patient care for the betterment of healthcare within Alberta.

With experience working in health care implementation science, you have a proven ability to effectively engage and collaborate with multidisciplinary stakeholders, and build strong relationships. You'll work closely with the Social Science Lead, post doctoral fellows, and our physician leads on several projects simultaneously. You’re a self-starter, have an excellent knowledge of qualitative research methods, have experience using theoretically informed implementation science frameworks to carry out data collection and analysis, and have experience with academic publishing and presenting. Duties

• Designs projects and evaluation studies, determines the most appropriate methodology, and develops data collection protocols /instruments
• Oversees and manages assigned projects, including data collection activities, ethics preparation and submission
• Oversees project implementation including adherence to proposed timelines for recruitment and analysis
• Performs data collection using multiple qualitative approach and methods. Analyses qualitative data in a rigorous and theory-informed manner
• Helps set program objectives, and plans, implements, and oversees activities for implementation science and/or PLP projects
• Prepares grant proposals and progress reports to granting agencies
• Writes or collaborates to write manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Supports evidence translation activities and grant applications for the evidence translation and implementation science efforts of the group
• Participates in planning, evaluation, and execution of knowledge transfer and implementation science strategies related to departmental projects, on individual projects and for the department overall
• Provides direction to physicians and other collaborators working with L3PLP to identify communication needs, planning, evaluating, and implementing strategies to satisfy those needs with respect to quality improvement, implementation science, and projects drawing on qualitative methodologies and data
• Plans, writes, and disseminates academic output for quality improvement and/or implementation science projects through peer-reviewed publications, lectures and participation in conferences, either individually or part of a project team, as appropriate
• Other duties as required in support of the broader program agenda.

Qualifications

• PhD in a relevant health or social science field (e.g., Anthropology, Sociology) is required. Must have a thorough understanding of implementation science approaches, qualitative and mixed methods, and social science theory, with a preferred focus on primary care and health sciences. Post doctoral training is preferred.
• 3-5 years of experience in a relevant research field with a focus on qualitative research methods
• Experience applying theoretical models of communication, shared decision making, behaviour, culture and system change to interventions.
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of implementation frameworks, knowledge translation frameworks and related methodologies.
• Expert knowledge of qualitative research methodologies and analyses
• Expertise in complex problem identification and definition.
• A demonstrated track record in grant development, writing, and management is an asset
• Experience in stakeholder engagement. Able to build and manage excellent relationships and engage stakeholders spanning external and internal networks and partners, collaborators, funding agencies, patient advocates, community organizations, suppliers, etc.
• Strong knowledge and experience in Knowledge Translation and Quality Improvement is preferred
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and relationship management skills.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written), interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills.
• Demonstrated ability to disseminate knowledge through publications, lectures, and participation in conferences
• Demonstrated experience with academic writing for publication in peer-reviewed journals
• Positive attitude and ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Demonstrated initiative, resourcefulness, problem-solving abilities and results achievement.

In accordance with the Trust/Research Academic Staff Agreement , this position has a term length of one year, with possibility of extension, and offers a comprehensive benefits package found at Faculty & Staff Benefits and an annual salary range of $58,210 - $80,050. Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is contingent on grant funding.
