Position Summary:

  • Conducting literature reviews:

    • To identify systemic barriers that lead to the underrepresentation of racialized individuals; African, Caribbean and Black individuals; Indigenous peoples; persons with disabilities; Women; and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals within disciplines related to the D2R initiative, as well a mitigation strategies that have had demonstrable efficiency.

    • To identify promising scientific research areas in the D2R space that would advance EDI more generally (e.g. the Diversity Monitor that established that 95% of Genome-Wide Associated Studies (GWAS) databases were based on genomes of European ancestry). 

  • Collecting and analyzing non-traditional publications (e.g., commentaries, newspapers, organizational reports, social media, blogs), or in other sectors to identify systemic barriers of underrepresented groups.

  • Assisting and conducting focus groups, surveys, and one-on-one interviews with key stakeholders in the development of the EDI Action Plan.

  • Assisting and conducting outreach to existing associations within McGill or partner institutions, community associations, and consideration of results of previous engagement activities conducted by McGill to identify barriers and potential solutions.

  • Assisting with other tasks as required in the development of the EDI Action Plan.


Qualifications:

  • A strong interest in topics and matters related EDI.

  • Excellent research and analytical skills.

  • Ability to extract and summarize relevant information.

  • Excellent time-management skills and ability to meet deadlines.

  • Effective project management skills.

  • Highly developed teamwork and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong written and oral communication.

  • Knowledge of French is highly desirable.

  • Preference will be given to candidates pursuing graduate studies in areas related to D2R (e.g. genomics, ethics, law, social sciences) with a focus on EDI.
