Young Investigator in Plant Biology / Plant Genetics - Novel coffee cultivars

The Alcides Carvalho Coffee Research Center of the Agronomic Institute (IAC), Campinas - Brazil, a research unit of the Sao Paulo State Department of Agriculture and Supply, is selecting a researcher to contribute to a novel research area on coffee genetics.

The selected candidate will develop a research project as Young Investigators (JP-FAPESP) linked to theme “Precision breeding in Coffeaarabica – use of genetic editing for the introduction of agronomic traits in commercial cultivars”. The grant will last for 24 months and is linked to the State Research Institutes Modernization Program (Fapesp’s Process: 2017/50338-9).

The main objective is to develop genomic editing protocols to obtain novel coffee cultivars. The study also involves the establishment of protocols for transformation and regeneration of edited coffee plants.

The candidate must have PhD in Plant Biology, Plant Genetics, or related areas and hands-on experience in:

  • Molecular biology techniques, plant transformation. It is desirable to have experience in CRISPR protocols for genome editing;
  • Bioinformatics tools;
  • Scientific writing and English language proficiency;
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team;
