Offer Description
Recent results from our lab at the University of São Paulo's Institute of Chemistry (IQ-USP) in Brazil indicate that mitochondrial calcium transport and morphology are both sensors and regulators of energy metabolism in various different tissues. We also find that beta cell function is strongly impacted by obesity, in a manner dependent on the modulation of oxidative phosphorylation. This project aims to understand the interrelations between nutrient availability, mitochondrial calcium transport, oxidative phosphorylation, and insulin secretion in beta cells.
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
More information about the fellowship is at: fapesp.br/oportunidades/6776 .
