Offer Description

The Center of Artificial Intelligence in the Remarking of Urban Environments, IARA, has an open post-doctoral researcher position in machine learning and data mining. The researcher will investigate new Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) approaches for Smart Cities-related data.

Under coordination of Prof. André de Carvalho from University of São Paulo's São Carlos campus (Brazil), IARA is supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) through its Applied Research Centers (ARCs) program and features various research institutes and companies as partners.

Education requirements:

- A PhD degree in Computer Science or related areas. Applicants are expected to have finished less than 7 years or to be about to finish their Ph.D. degrees.

- Besides a solid background in computer science, the desired backgrounds are:

• Strong publication record in the area of machine learning and data mining, mainly in machine learning and data mining-related journals with high-impact factors;

• Very good knowledge of written and spoken English (Portuguese is not required);

• Strong background knowledge in machine learning, data mining and statistics;

• Good knowledge of languages and tools, such as Python, R, C, C++, or Java;

• Strong teamwork capacity;

• Knowledge of Deep Neural Networks and Evolutionary Algorithms is a plus.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 9,047.40 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
