The Faculty of Sciences, research institute Data Science Institute of Hasselt University seeks a (m/f/x)

Background

The Data Science Institute (DSI) brings together researchers working in the broad field of data science across faculties and research groups at Hasselt University. DSI's main objective is to facilitate the data-driven future. It supports and enhances collaboration between different data science research groups at the university, and acts as a single point of contact for external collaborations and consultancy. Your role as postdoctoral researcher at the DSI is to conduct research in AI and Machine Learning, streamline the different AI initiatives at Hasselt University, support Ph.D. students and aid in education and consulting.

Job content

RESEARCH

You will conduct applied and translational research in the field of Artificial intelligence and Machine Learning and consider topics like, e.g., Explainable AI, machine learning for time series, deep learning for image analysis, visual analytics and augmented intelligence. Further, you will oversee the AI-related research at DSI and help with the supervision of Ph.D. students. You will support the translation of scientific findings into fine peer-reviewed manuscripts and are able to communicate these findings to the society during activities for popular science.

Together with the professors of the DSI, you explore funding opportunities and partake in competitive funding.  You are the contact person for our consulting department with respect to AI and Machine Learning and are actively involved in the search for new opportunities and conduct of consulting tasks.

EDUCATION

You will take up a limited educational tasks in the master of Statistics and data science and enthusiastly promote AI and Machine Learning to the students.

FLAIR and AI@UHasselt

You will help to streamline the initiatives at UHasselt surrounding the FLanders AI Research (FLAIR) programme and facilitate interaction between the different FLAIR beneficiaries at UHasselt.  You are involved in the organisation, preparation and execution of outreach activities for local stake-holders such as government, industry, and hospitals.
