YOUR TASKS

  • At least 70% of your assignment will be spent on academic research in a framework of catalytic reaction engineering: kinetic modeling, reactor design and process analysis. Particular attention will be paid to the comprehensive character of the models accounting for the reaction kinetics, the reactor configuration and the corresponding process scheme for a wide variety of reactions and possible feedstocks.
  • Up to 10% of your time will be spent of scientific communication among project partners and project management.
  • Up to 10% of your time will be spent on teaching assignments.
  • Up to 10% of your time will be spent on coaching of students at the master level.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering; for diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. The degree requirements need to be fulfilled at the start of your appointment.
  • Previous experience with kinetic modeling, reactor simulation and process analysis is required.
  • You are an expert in the application of elementary chemical reaction kinetics, more specifically towards the simulation and the design of catalytic reactors. Experience in analyzing the interplay of different operating variables on the chemical kinetics is available.
  • You are familiar with the simulation of chemical reactors, particularly with how transport phenomena can affect the behavior of an industrial reactor.
  • Broad experience with modelling techniques, ranging from process simulations to the integrations of kinetics with data science, is considered as an advantage.
  • Proven track record of technical writing through scientific publications in international peer-reviewed academic journals that are widely disseminated.
  • Presentations at international research symposia.
  • Excellent communication skills in English – both oral and written.
  • International mindset and mobility, in view of the promotion of the interaction and collaboration between the project partners.
  • Experience and proven interest in mentoring activities is considered as an advantage.
  • Living in Belgium or ready to stay in Belgium during the research

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a contract of definite duration until December 2025 (included).
  • Your contract will start on 1/05/2024 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales .
  • All Ghent University staff members enjoy a number of benefits, such as a wide range of training and education opportunities, 36 days of holiday leave (on an annual basis for a full-time job) supplemented by annual fixed bridge days, bicycle allowance and eco vouchers.
