What you will do
The Platform & Operations Efficiency Team (POET) has responsibility to drive speed of learning in imec’s 200 & 300mm Si pathfinding and platformization activities and to create and maintain stable modules and flows. This needs to happen for imec’s research test vehicles and critical customer projects in many interesting fields like logic, memory, interconnect, 3D, Si photonics, sensors, MEMS and life science applications.
The Operations Efficiency group (OpEff), is responsible for speed of learning at imec. Tactically, this means managing daily lot operations, priorities, and logistical functions for the collective R&D teams. It also means working to create new solutions to old problems, changing the business processes of imec, setting new ways of work and goals, and helping the teams adapt. Through data and inspiration, collaborate with stakeholders to increase the functional speed in all aspects possible.
- As R&D Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of 4-5 highly experienced R&D Project Managers, ensuring timely progress and completion, managing the task balancing in the team. Expand the team through effective recruiting to increase the scope of projects.
- Ensure effective coordination across research departments and research programs within imec for daily lot operations, priorities, and logistical functions for the collective R&D teams.
- Drive your team to make data based decisions. Together with your team, analyse data from the research and fab functions, define opportunities to make dramatic improvements. Understand the complex relationships involved, propose a way to make progress through procedure / process / habit changes.
- Coordinate with upper management for alignment, then facilitate with leaders across imec to execute these solutions and quantify the improvement impact. These projects will be across department or fully across imec level activities.
- Implement and monitor together with the HR team, the HR processes in the team. This includes:
- Translating the corporate/project/program goals into personal performance management targets.
- Coaching the members of the group towards achieving their goals.
- Actively seek input from stakeholders to ensure a fair balance for each employee in HR processes.
- Create a true team atmosphere and create opportunities for information sharing.
- Ensure and promote the development of the team through coaching and training, on both technical and behavioral skills.
- Work across product and responsibility matrix organization at imec at a broad level, to ensure the projects are supported and alignment is maintained from process and fab teams, to ensure success of the projects.

Skills/Qualifications
Who you are
- You have obtained a bachelor’s or master’s degree in applied or material science or engineering.
- You have a solid understanding of the complexity of operations in a Si wafer fab, and the challenges of coordinating across stakeholders in that environment.
- You have a minimum of 5-10 years experience leading teams, with direct supervision and management of technical team members.
- You are a high energy, enthusiastic leader, who leads through an inspirational attitude. Positive and determined approach to problem solving, with the capability to drive to success. Proven track record of success.
- You have demonstrated management skills, including the ability to influence, engage, and motivate others. Good resource planning skills and project planning skills. Able to manage a broad variety of stakeholders simultaneously.
- Skilled at working across organizational boundaries and handling conflicting priorities. Excellent communication skills are essential.
- You like taking initiative, you are persuasive and bold, while keeping a constructive attitude.
- You have strong English communication skills to work successfully in an internationally dynamic team environment.
- Please note that this position is based in Leuven, Belgium. You either live in Belgium or are willing to relocate. Relocation support is provided by imec.
