Offer Description

In the REGULATE research program (WEL Research Institute ), we aim to decipher the mechanisms regulating the effector functions of a particular population of memory T lymphocytes named virtual memory T cells (TVM ), stimulated during the immune response against parasitic worms, and involving the cytokine interleukin 4 (IL-4). The research project is based on recent work from the laboratory: Rolot et al. 2018 , Petrellis et al., 2023 , Yang et al., 2023 (preprint).

The objective of the project is to harness the potential of virtual memory T cells to develop alternative strategies of intervention and improve host protection against infections. This research project will fill an important gap in the understanding of the mechanisms regulating virtual memory T cell mediated functions and will identify important alternative points of intervention to help combat infections and induced disease.

We are looking for an enthusiastic postdoctoral researcher to join the team.

The Dewals laboratory is based at the FARAH research unit, localized at the Faculty of Veterinary of Medicine, Department of Infectious and Parasitic Diseases of University of Liege, Liege, Belgium.

Specific duties and activities:

  • Implement existing models and generate new preclinical models to directly address the role of IL-4-induced TVM in type 2 immunity during parasite infection and viral coinfections.
  • Develop experimental approaches to investigate cell-cell interactions of TVM in a type 2 immune environment, including flow cytometry, single cell RNA-sequencing, CHIP-sequencing.
  • Supervise PhD and MSc students.
  • Communicate findings through participation to international meetings and publications.
