Postdoctoral researcher 'FLOW'

Updated: about 2 months ago

The Faculty of Engineering, Department Toegepaste mechanica, is looking for a postdoctoral researcher

More concretely your work package contains:

The Thermodynamics and Fluid Mechanics (FLOW) research group at the VUB has a strong expertise in both fundamental and applied research topics related to the modelling of thermal-fluid systems, with applications in aeronautics (unsteady aerodynamics, flow control), aerospace (atmospheric re-entry, aerospace plasmas) and energy (wind energy, bioenergy, hydrogen, heat networks, plasma-assisted combustion).  Since 2021, FLOW joined forces with the ATM research group at ULB, working in similar fields of expertise, to create the VUB-ULB Joint Research Groupe BRITE (Brussels Institute for Thermal-fluid Systems and clean Energy, https://brite-research.be).

As a group, we aim to further valorize our expertise in data-driven modelling of thermal-fluid systems and develop our project portfolio to apply it to various systems, such as wind turbines, drones, plasma-assisted combustion, district heating networks, heat and power production systems, H2-based energy systems, particle-laden flows, particulate matter emissions, and more.

To achieve our valorization plans in the coming years, we are looking for a postdoctoral research developer who has a thorough insight in the execution of R&D at a high level and strong skills in research development.

What do we expect from you for our multidisciplinary team?

  • Organizing regular internal meetings with team leaders to better understand the needs of our group in terms of development and valorization plans;
  • Identifying suitable research project calls at the regional, national and international levels;
  • Proactively participating in research networks at national and international events;
  • Stimulating cooperation with industrial partners;
  • Identifying and informing our group’s researchers through various channels about the funding possibilities that exist for their research (one-to-one meetings, website, social media, workshops);
  • Writing and submitting common project proposals;
  • Assisting researchers in the writing of scientific papers for journals and conferences;
  • Interacting  with the VUB Tech Transfer and R&D Offices;
  • Regular assessment and review of our group’s SWOT analysis and impact on team activities;
  • Update of the projects acquisition funnel and review of related metrics.

For this function, our Brussels Humanities, Sciences & Engineering Campus (Elsene) will serve as your home base.
