YOUR TASKS

  • Initiate a research track on AI-supported collaborative learning.  Investigate possible practical and theoretical research directions, with applications in (secondary) education (in Flanders).
  • Actively organize and engage in a constructive collaboration between NLP researchers at the UGent - IDLab Text-to-Knowledge research cluster, researchers on social robotics at UGent - IDLab, and researchers on emotion recognition at UGent - LT3.
  • Perform your own technical research within that collaboration, with focus on a scientific contribution by summer, and a joint proof-of-concept.
  • Contribute to the day-to-day workings of the Text-to-Knowledge team at UGent - IDLab.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • You hold a thesis-based doctorate in natural language processing, with experience in AI for education.
  • You have experience in following up the extremely rapidly evolving area of foundation models (text-based, as well as other modalities).
  • You have published in frontier venues on AI research for education (journals, conferences).
  • You are able to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams, combining insights from AI, education, linguistics, and other relevant fields.
  • You have a strong ability to communicate complex AI concepts and research findings to non-expert audiences, including educators and stakeholders.
  • You have the capacity for innovative thinking and problem-solving in developing AI solutions to enhance and understand collaborative learning processes.

WHAT WE CAN OFFER YOU

  • We offer you a part-time contract (60%) of definite duration for the periode from March 15, 2024 to August 31, 2024.
  • Your contract will start on 15/03/2024 at the earliest.
  • Your remuneration will be determined by salary scale WM1 to WM4 (if you hold a Master’s degree) or salary scale PD1 to PD4 (if you hold a doctorate).  Click here for more information about our salary scales .
