Teaching assignment
In the Faculty of Medicine and Life Sciences you are partly responsible for education in the fields of histology and histopathology. This includes teaching through lectures, tutorial groups, work sessions and practicals, but also including the (co)coordinatorship of course components.

Research assignment
You will develop your own research program into the underlying mechanisms and treatment of cardiometabolic disorders complementary to the current research lines of the BIOMED research institute, with good cooperation with the Limburg Clinical Research Center  (LCRC). Bringing in new research technology that can strengthen the research spearheads is a strong plus.
In addition, you provide coaching for doctoral students during their research projects (including publication, presentations and dissemination of research). You will also monitor the quality of research conducted in accordance with regulatory and ethical standards.

POST-DOC (50%)

As a Research leader, you provide extensive support to the research activities of the cardiology department, where you are responsible for 3 important aspects: (i) supporting research, (ii) supervising research and (iii) conducting research.
You are responsible for identifying the scientific ambitions and guiding clinicians and researchers. This domain includes formulating research hypotheses and objectives as well as recognizing and seizing opportunities for funding. This includes looking for opportunities at local programs such as LCRC and UHasselt, but also at national (e.g. FWO, VLAIO,...) and international (e.g. Interreg, Horizons,...) level.

You are responsible for the guidance, coaching and supervision of (junior) researchers within the Hasselt Heart Center. You are responsible for assessing the feasibility, relevance and potential impact projects, ensuring that they are consistent with the objectives of the service and the available resources.

BIOMED aims to translate new scientific discoveries into applications that contribute to a healthy society in line with the civic ambition of Hasselt University.

The department of Cardiology and Organ Systems is looking for a motivated lecturer/research leader (50% professor/50% postdoc) to strengthen education, research and valorization services with regard to cardiometabolic disorders.

Skills/Qualifications

• You have a PhD in (bio)medical sciences, medicine, biology, bioengineering or pharmacy (or equivalent). * Academic staff needs to comply with the language regulations for the administrative language (Dutch and/or English, CEFR level C1). If necessary, Hasselt University providestailor-made support to help reach the required language level if necessary. (or equivalent)
• You have an excellent academic track record with first and/or last author publications in international high-quality scientific journals in the field of cardiometabolic sciences.
• You have at least 3 years of postdoctoral research experience in the specific research domain.
• You have already been successful in the field of grant applications and project administration (including writing progress reports, financial reports and final evaluation reports).
• Your (inter)national research/education network is a plus.
• You have experience in supervising technicians, master students and/or doctoral students. You have the necessary qualities to lead a team of employees.
• PI: Je hebt ervaring met dierexperimenteel onderzoek op het gebied van hart- en vaatziekten en je bent complementair aan de bestaande onderzoeksexpertise binnen BIOMED.
• PI: You have the necessary qualities to function within a multidisciplinary research group.
• PI: Experience with academic education in the field of histology and histopathology is a plus. You enjoy teaching and convey the lesson content enthusiastically to your students.
• POSTDOC: You pay particular attention to the diversity of the clinicians within the Heart Center and you are responsible for guaranteeing equal opportunities for all colleagues within the service, regardless of their field, focus or scientific background.

Benefits

If the candidate is appointed to the scale of lecturer, the contract will consist of a 5-year tenure track, with the possibility of appointment as senior lecturer in the tenured faculty after favorable evaluation. If appointed to the scale of associate professor or full professor, appointment to tenure track will occur after a 3-year internship period.
As a postdoctoral researcher, you will be appointed for three years with possibility of renewal after positive evaluation.
