Job description

A full-time, indivisible post in the field of Geomatics within the Geography Department. This post includes teaching and research activities, as well as services to the Community.

Teaching activities

The job-holder will be responsible for teaching courses at Bachelor’s and Master’s level, particularly in the fields of the acquisition and processing of spatial data, including managing integrated projects and data collection in the field.

For example, the course load may include the following courses:

  • Methods of acquiring spatial data (30h Th, 30h Pr) - Bachelor’s level
  • 3D data processing (30h Th, 30h Pr) - Master’s level
  • Topography (30h Th, 30h Pr) - Master’s level
  • Integrated data acquisition project (80h Pr) - Master’s level
  • Error theory (20h Th, 30h Pr) - Master’s level

In addition, the successful applicant may be asked to develop one or more new courses depending on their expertise.

Research Activities

Applicants will be expected to manage and develop international-level research in geomatics, with a particular focus on emerging approaches and technologies such as artificial intelligence and the analysis of Big Geospatial Data. 

Services to the community

The job-holder will be expected to take part in services to the community, particularly within the Department of Geography and the Faculty of Sciences.

Qualifications required / profile

Applicants must hold a doctorate in geomatics or a related field; 

Research profile:

  • Applicants must be able to demonstrate
    • strong potential and great autonomy in terms of research;
    • International fundamental research experience[1] in one of the fields of geomatics.[2]
  • Applicants should be able to propose ways of integrating this into the existing research fields within the Geomatics Unit and, more broadly, within the University.
  • Post-doc experience is a plus and will be, in all cases, essential for progressing.

Teaching profile:

  • Applicants must
    • be able to demonstrate excellent teaching skills:
    • Demonstrate their ability to teach about spatial data acquisition, management and processing (topography, lasergrammetry and photogrammetry).
  • The ability to speak French for the Bachelor’s level courses is a plus, without being essential at the time of appointment.

Recruitment conditions

The post-holder will be appointed either for a fixed term of four years, or definitively.

If the post is granted for a fixed term, an evaluation will take place during the third year.

  • If this evaluation is negative, the appointment will end after the four-year period.
  • If the assessment is positive, the person concerned shall be appointed on a permanent basis.

[1] The practical use of different geomatics tools in the context of a specific application is not considered as sufficient experience
