JOB DESCRIPTION

A full-time indivisible position, in the field of “Ruminant Theriogenology” within the Clinical Department of Production Animals (DCP). This position includes teaching and research activities as well as services to the community.

TEACHING ACTIVITIES

The teaching activities involve teaching students in the Master 2 and Master 3 programme through theory classes and practical teaching – clinics and on-call duties – associated with the following courses:

  • VETE2061-1: Semiology of production animals
  • VETE2078-1: Managing the health and production of ruminants
  • VETE2085-1: Production animal clinic
  • VETE2095-1: Clinical module on production animals

The teaching activities also consist of teaching students enrolled in the Specialised Masters in Veterinary Sciences, through teaching classes in the following courses:

  • VETE0460-1: Ruminant clinic and on-call, including anaesthesia and imaging
  • VETE0461-1: Livestock medical clinic: visiting farms, monitoring reproduction and mobile clinic
  • RESEARCH ACTIVITIES

    Research activities should feed into theoretical and clinical teaching of the discipline. Total freedom is granted as to the subject, as long as it contributes to the sustainability of farms, including ruminants. Research activities include supervising doctoral theses in the discipline and will fall within an interdisciplinary research centre (such as FARAH). They will involve collaborating with other expertise available in-house and externally.

    SERVICES TO THE COMMUNITY

    These services are based on clinical activities within the Ruminants Clinic and in farms, the continuous training of veterinary practitioners and integration into various Faculty bodies. The lecturer must be involved in their professional field on the regional, national and international level and must be able to call upon recognised expertise in the field of Theriogenology. They must also actively contribute towards the reputation of the University of Liège both nationally and internationally.

    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED / PROFILE

    • Hold a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine, licenced to practice in Belgium and hold a PhD.
    • Be a graduate of one of the following colleges: the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR), the American College of Theriogenologists (ACT), or the European College of Bovine Health Management (ECBHM). Applicants may also apply who have not yet qualified as specialists but who have finished their residency in one of the two disciplines and are eligible to sit the exam.
    • Have recognised theoretical and clinical experience, indispensable in the field of individual theriogenology and livestock (including mammal health).
    • Have stayed outside the Wallonia-Brussels community for professional reasons for six months (not necessarily continuously) is an advantage;
    • Have good knowledge of French;
    • Demonstrate an interest in real aptitude for teaching (teaching plan);
    • Have interpersonal skills allowing for good integration within the existing team, aptitude for leadership and communication.
    • Have demonstrated the ability to lead research projects and the capacity for scientific publication. Be able to develop a significant research project which meets the expectations of society, ideally but not exclusively on the theme of ruminant reproduction and/or mammal health.

    SELECTION PROCEDURE

    Each application will be examined by a Faculty committee which will shortlist applicants for interview, explaining their decisions with regard to the job description and the qualifications and merits of the applicants. The committee will then carry out the interviews. The interview will cover the applicant’s CV, their teaching and research plans and how they intend to integrate into the University.
