Offer Description

The Jan Michiels lab is embedded within the KU Leuven (University of Leuven) Centre of Microbial and Plant genetics and within the VIB (Flemish Institute for Biotechnology) Center for Microbiology. The group studies bacterial survival under various stressful conditions. The lab consists of 20 junior lab researchers and is looking for a dynamic and highly motivated postdoc. Candidates with the required profile (see below) will work with us to submit a full application for fellowships to Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions and The Research Foundation – Flanders (FWO). PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS IS NOT A FUNDED POSITION BUT AN EXPRESSION OF INTEREST TO APPLY FOR FUNDING. A second major line of research is directed towards the discovery of novel antibiotics and the development of microbial cell factories using metabolic engineering and synthetic biology. The broader potential research themes are: MUTATIONAL ROBUSTNESS AND EVOLVABILITY • Pathways involved in robustness against de novo mutations • Type of genetic variation that can be buffered • Molecular mechanisms underlying mutational robustness EVOLUTION AND MECHANISMS OF ANTIBIOTIC RESILIENCE • Persistence • Resistance MICROBIAL CELL FACTORIES • Alcoholic and diol chemicals • Fatty acids
