Are you also looking for the right space to develop your potential? We are seeking a/an University assistant postdoctoral at the Max Perutz Labs.

The Max Perutz Labs bring together the groups working in molecular biology at the University of Vienna. In order to intensify the collaboration with the Medical University of Vienna in the field of molecular biosciences, the Max Perutz Labs were founded in 2005. We maintain high-tech research infrastructures at two neighbouring locations, where around 450 scientists from more than 40 nations work in basic biomedical research in more than 45 research groups.

Your personal sphere of influence:


As a university assistant post doc, you will complement/complete the research team around Verena Jantsch. You will work on meiotic chromosome segregation in Caenorhabditis elegans. The group is based at Max Perutz Labs on the Vienna Biocenter Campus.

Your future tasks:

You actively participate in research, teaching & administration, which means:
•    Contribution to your research project with the topic meiotic chromosome segregation in C. elegans.
•    Contribution to developing assays for Hi C analysis of meiotic nuclei.
•    Participation in publications / academic articles / presentations.
•    Participation in teaching and independent teaching of courses within the scope of the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.
•    Involvement in the organization of meetings, conferences, symposia.
•    You take on administrative tasks in research, teaching and administration.
•    Supervision of BSc and MSc students.


This is part of your personality:


•    University degree in Biology, Molecular Genetics or related fields
•    Experience in genetics, cell biology and biochemistry
•    Practical experience in handling the model organism C. elegans
•    Practical experience with the generation of genome modifications in C. elegans
•    Practical experience with single nuclei HiC analysis
•    Experience with next generation sequencing and sequence analysis
•    In-depth knowledge of the processes taking place during meiosis.    
•    Experience with basic bioinformatics tools
•    Data analysis and processing with using R software, Image J
•    Experience with imaging analysis
•    Experience with evaluation of large data sets
•    Experience with high resolution microscopy
•    High ability to express yourself both orally and in writing
•    Computer literacy (MS-Office; Imaging Software)
•    Experience in academic writing
•    Didactic competences experience with e-learning
•    Excellent command of written and spoken English (Cl Level)
•    Ability to work in a team
•    Knowledge of university processes and structures

Employment duration: The employment duration is initially limited to 3 years, with the option of prolongation to 6 years.
Fair salary: Job grading in accordance with collective bargaining agreement. The basic salary of EUR 4,351.90 (14 times a year)  increases if we can credit professional experience.
