Scientific programmer / bioinformatician / data scientist
IMBA – Institute of Molecular Biotechnology is one of the leading life sciences institutes in Europe, funded by the Austrian Academy of Sciences. IMBA is located at the Vienna BioCenter, a vibrant cluster of universities, research institutes, and biotech companies.
The Gerlich laboratory investigates fundamental cellular processes using advanced microscopy, high-throughput DNA sequencing, and biophysical approaches. Our team has developed the open-source software HiCognition for genomics data analysis (https://www.hicognition.com ) and various tools for automated quantification of microscopy data. We search for a bioinformatician/ data scientist/ scientific programmer to join our team.
The tasks for the new team member include implementing and applying computational methods to analyze high-throughput microscopy and genomics data. Furthermore, we offer the possibility to develop independent projects as well as contributions to scientific publications including co-authorship.
• Applicants should hold a degree (BSc, MSc, or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Biology, Physics, or related disciplines.
• They should be proficient in image analysis, machine learning, and software development (preferentially Python).
• They should have the ability to develop customized analysis pipelines from raw data processing to visualizations.
• Candidates are expected to be fluent in English and have good communication- and interpersonal skills such that they become an integral part of our team.
In this position you will:
• Develop and implement cutting-edge image analysis tools
• Develop new genomics data analysis procedures
• Expand the open-source software platform HiCognition
• Build robust data processing pipelines that transform high-throughput experimental data into actionable knowledge
• Train and help biologists analyze their imaging and genomics data
