Job profile:

Postdoctoral Associate (40 hours/week), Department of American Studies, University of Innsbruck, starting February 1, 2025. The position is initially limited to six years. A qualification agreement may be offered. Upon successful fulfillment of the terms of this agreement a permanent position as associate professor will be offered.
Main duties:

  • independent research in the field of North American literary and cultural studies
  • implementation of a postdoc research project on the level of a Habilitation
  • publications and conference activities at an international level
  • raising third-party funding
  • independent teaching of courses in the BA and MA study programs of English and American Studies as well as the teacher training program subject English
  • (co-)supervision of student theses
  • student supervision and mentoring
  • participation in research projects of the department and in research networks of the university
  • participation in administrative tasks 

Required qualifications: 

  • completion of a doctorate (PhD) in the field of North American literary and cultural studies (with above-average results)
  • in addition to the PhD thesis, academic publications in English in renowned peer-reviewed journals and conference papers
  • research foci in the field of American Studies (with at least one in the area of literary studies)
  • excellent didactic skills and university teaching experience
  • relevant mobility experiences during or after the PhD phaseseveral months of relevant professional experience after the doctorate/PhD
  • excellent language skills in English (C2 level)
  • German language skills at least at B1 level with the willingness to acquire C1 level within two years
  • experience in working with third-party funds (acquisition, management)
  • strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team as well as a high degree of independence and organizational skillss
  • social skills

  • teaching concept and draft of a seminar plan for the compulsory module 13b of the BA curriculum English and American Studies
