  • Based at the Bundoora campus, but may be required to work and/or be based at other campuses of the University 


 


About The Position 


 
The Technical Officer position requires the incumbent to have extensive experience and expertise in the operation, maintenance, and training associated with a range of research equipment in Food Science laboratories.  


 


The role involves overseeing daily operational activities in the Food and Process Chemistry laboratories and other STEM spaces when needed. Responsibilities include the development and implementation of documentation such as SOPs, SWIs, and equipment registers, along with providing technical advice and training to users.  


 


The Technical Officer will collaborate with the Technical Coordinator to create induction and training materials, manage infrastructure, ensure compliance with safety standards and legislative requirements, and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This multifaceted role demands a client-centric approach, proficiency in laboratory operations, and a commitment to maintaining a safe, efficient, and compliant working environment. 


 


To be successful in this position, you’ll have:  


 


  • Experience and knowledge in the routine operation, maintenance, and training of various research equipment or instruments, including but not limited to DSC, Rheometer, Particle Sizing equipment, Freeze Dryer and FTIR. 

  • Proven knowledge and experience working within Food Science, Chemical Engineering laboratories/workspaces, or Research environments. 

  • Proven laboratory operations and maintenance experience, preferably in a teaching or research environment. 

  • Demonstrated understanding of current OH&S legislation with knowledge of other field or industry regulations or standards related to the field within the scope of the service area. 

  • Proven initiative and problem-solving skills, highly organised, and the ability to work autonomously and in a team. 

  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of working in accordance to the RMIT value statements or similar frameworks in other organisations.
