About the team

This team of practitioners is focused on high performance outcomes, compliance and contributing to a pragmatic safety culture via the implementation of safe systems of work. The team operates across a broad portfolio including teaching, fieldwork support, laboratory management, instrument/equipment stewardship, research training/design/optimisation and analysis, program coordination, and workshop design, manufacture and repair.

About the opportunity

You will provide technical expertise and support to staff and students for any practical activities or research. You will work across all discipline areas to set up, modify and maintain operation of specialist equipment and provide technical support to a diverse range of teaching and research projects under direction from the Chief Technician or their delegate(s). You may also be required to engage with clients and parties external to UWA.

To be considered for this role, you will demonstrate:

  • Year 12 or equivalent competency
  • Considerable relevant experience in an Engineering Workshop environment or similar 
  • Well-developed organisational skills and demonstrated ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, email and online/internet based systems
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team
  • General trade skills such as fitting, plumbing and welding is desirable

This position will require you to have a current ‘C’ class manual driver’s licence, the ability to fit the physical requirements of the position and some after-hours work may be required.
