Overview:

  • Dynamic Solution Designer position available, 2 years Fixed Term position. Based at the Melbourne CBD campus (Hybrid role), and Flexible Working Arrangements

  • Deep Technical Skills and Technical leadership across large and complex Network & Cybersecurity solutions. Initial primary focus is Network Segmentation.

  • As a trusted advisor and key member of the Architecture Practice, the Solution Designer collaborates across ITS and other stakeholders, ensuring solutions are implemented as designed, whilst providing technical leadership and guidance across implementations.

About the Portfolio

The Operations Portfolio enables an integrated, enterprise wide delivery for best practice student and staff experiences. 

The Portfolio incorporates the following business units:  Enterprise Projects and Business Performance (EPBP), Communications, People, Information and Technology Services (ITS), Office of the Chief Operating Officer, Procurement and Vietnam Operations.

The Portfolio houses significant drivers and delivery components across the staff and student journeys and enables the overall experience for both groups.  The Portfolio is integral in bringing the RMIT strategy to life, across the globe.  Each of these functions supports the global operations of the University both directly as well as through its controlled entities.

The Information Technology Services (ITS) function, provides RMIT University with current and emerging Technology systems and services. The Role

The Solution Designer is a key member of the Architecture & Solutions team, responsible for the development of end-to-end Solutions from conceptual through to detailed designs. This role leads, prioritises and develops detailed designs for RMIT University, collaborating with IT Services groups as well as with business and IT leaders.

The Solution Designer will work closely with Solution and Enterprise Architects and other key members across the University to develop, maintain a range of architecture artefacts, including Logical and Physical Solution Designs, Patterns, Standards, Detailed Designs, whilst providing inputs to roadmaps and technology/platform strategies.

The Solution Designer will bring to RMIT a pragmatic, modern and connected approach to collaborate and engage stakeholders across the organisation, ensuring our architecture prepares us to our future and further progresses RMIT’s strategic goals and that solutions are implemented as designed and will be a key member of the Architecture Working Group.

RMIT has initiated several projects across its Cyber and Network programs to define security zones in its corporate network both in Australia and Vietnam.

The intention is to place endpoints with trust levels in the respective zone. The project will implement a network segmentation solution using a combination of Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager and Firewalls to segment both the wired and wireless networks.

There are approximately 100 RMIT buildings and 6 data centres in Australia and Vietnam that require network segmentation into security zones.

Skills & Experience

  • Ten+ years success in working across Network/Cyber solutions.

  • Highly collaborative and supportive of business and of its ideas and strategies. Comfortable, experienced, and accomplished at working with various stakeholders.

  • Exposure to multiple, diverse technologies, platforms and processing environments including working across a range of Network platforms.

  • Practical in approach to decision making and problem solving that is principle-based.

  • Good understanding of strategic and new and emerging technology trends, and the practical application of existing, new and emerging technologies to new and evolving business and operating models. Able to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.

  • Good understanding of product management, agile principles and development methodologies and capability of supporting agile teams by providing advice and guidance on opportunities, impact and risks, taking account of technical and architectural debt

  • Ability to work at varying levels of detail, from high level component/logical architecture to low level detail design. Note: Detailed design level is a must.

  • Hands on experience across firewalls, Network hardware and associated solutions.

  • Experience with design and implementation of Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager (other solutions such as Cisco ISE will be considered)
