About the Role
Support research activities within the Lab for the Practical Applications of Mechanism and Matching Theory (MatchLab) and the Centre for Market Design (CMD). With a focus on the areas of market design, matching algorithm design, and auction design, you'll have the opportunity to develop and prototype innovative matching algorithms, auction formats, and exchanges, tackling fundamental allocation problems both within our university and on a broader scale.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and maintaining software applications for matching, auction, and market experiments at MatchLab and the CMD.
  • Managing the MatchLab's code base, central repository, databases, research servers and software deployments.
  • Supporting the remote deployment of prototype exchanges in environments without consistent internet access.
  • Actively participating in research initiatives within the Department of Economics, with a focus on MatchLab and the CMD.

Who We Are Looking For
You are a talented full stack developer who thrives in collaborative environments, contributes effectively to research teams, and demonstrates a capacity for fruitful collaboration on research projects. Your expertise in coding languages including Python, SQL, Java, JavaScript, Typescript, and Angular, combined with a desire to apply your skills to economic problems, will be pivotal in supporting research activities spanning market design, matching algorithm design, and auction design.

You also have:

  • Expertise in web development with experience in creating APIs over Rest and WebSocket, along with proficiency in developing frontends using JavaScript frameworks like Angular.
  • Experience in managing larger-scale software development projects from planning through to production, including design, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
  • Proven track record in designing and maintaining software and data for research experiments, coupled with a solid understanding of industry best practice standards in software engineering.
  • Demonstrated ability in conducting interdisciplinary research, communicating research concepts to diverse audiences, analysing data proficiently, problem-solving, and maintaining accurate research records.
